The Outer Worlds 2 is incredibly CPU-intensive to begin with. The game has some serious optimization issues that hamper the playability. Gameplay-wise, it’s fantastic, but performance-wise, it has problems. For starters, you will be CPU-bound if you do not have a modern 6-core 12-threaded processor such as the Ryzen 5 7500F or higher. That said, other issues include temporal instability in grass, shimmering, artifacting, object smearing, and more.

The settings below mitigate these issues and help you play the game with a seamless experience.

For RTX 4060 and up to the 4060 Ti, you can use these settings to play at 1080p resolution. With the RTX 4070, you can enable 1440p and see how it turns out.

If you are still CPU-bound, enable DLSS Frame Generation only then, as it will come in clutch and fix the frame pacing issues and jittery gameplay, making the game feel smooth and won’t cause any input lag issues either.

With GPUs like the RTX 4070 Super and higher, we recommend playing the game at 1440p with these settings. These are specifically tuned for the assumption that you have a CPU close to or superior to the Ryzen 5 9600X tier. That said, we are not using any upscaling; instead, we use DLAA to maximize GPU utilization and keep most of the compute load on the GPU.

As a result, gameplay will be smooth, with no frame pacing issues. Still, if you are experiencing jitter, enable DLSS Frame Generation to mitigate CPU-bound issues.
