The Outer Worlds 2, the highly anticipated sequel to The Outer Worlds, one of the biggest surprises of 2019, finally has a confirmed release date. The announcement comes courtesy of the recently held Xbox Games Showcase. The showcase also gave fans the very first look at gameplay and the improvements they can expect from the upcoming action RPG from Obsidian Entertainment.
Given that it is releasing very close to Avowed, which, despite its narrative shortcomings, was quite an intriguing and often fun action RPG, there are a ton of similarities between the two titles.
For starters, both Avowed and The Outer Worlds 2 are built using Unreal Engine 5, which is the biggest reason for the sequel’s improved visuals. Additionally, the sequel comes with the promise of delivering a more fleshed-out open-world experience compared to the original. While the game is still far from its official release, it is already available for pre-order on all platforms. The Outer Worlds 2 Release Date and Platforms
The Outer Worlds 2 is scheduled to be released on October 29, 2025. Much like Obsidian’s previous title, Avowed, The Outer Worlds 2 is coming to all current-generation systems, including PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Windows PC. Surprisingly, despite being published by Xbox Game Studios, the sequel is getting a simultaneous release on PS5 and Xbox Series systems. In addition, The Outer Worlds 2 is also coming to Xbox Game Pass on day one.
Note that access to day one releases is only available to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers on consoles.
However, this is not the case for PC Game Pass subscribers, who can access day one releases even on the basic tier of the subscription. Additionally, if you pre-order the game’s Premium Edition, you can start playing the game 5 days early, on October 24, 2025.
The Outer Worlds 2 Editions and Prices
Similar to Avowed and the original The Outer Worlds, the sequel is offered in two different editions: Standard and Premium. The Standard Edition, priced at $80, comes with the base game and the pre-order bonus, Commander Zane’s Anti-Monopolistic Battle Pack.
The Premium Edition, on the other hand, is priced at $100. For the extra $20, the Premium Edition gives you access to multiple cosmetic packs as well as the story expansions planned for post-launch. Here’s a breakdown of the different editions and contents of The Outer Worlds 2:
