This Outer Worlds 2 walkthrough will take you through the Schemes of the Secret Smugglers quest, a missable side quest in Fairfield.

The world of The Outer Worlds 2 is comically gray, and you get to witness this firsthand in the Schemes of the Secret Smugglers side quest. In this side quest, you uncover a secret smuggling ring operating out of the Fairfield Greenhouse. Investigating this lead throws you right into the ring as a worker, and your first task is to delete any evidence the cops could have on them.
The task isn’t simple, but if you wish to win the faction over, there’s no choice but to do it, and we’re here to help you with it. In this guide, we shall walk you through the Schemes of the Secret Smugglers side quest in The Outer Worlds 2.

Unlocking the Quest

You unlock this quest by reading all the memos in the Fairfield Jail. Head to the Fairfield fast-travel point and continue north down the road. The jail is the first building to your left. Enter the jail and walk over behind the reception desk. Interact with the computer, and then read all the memos on it. Reading all of them will unlock the quest.

Investigate Fairfield Greenhouse

The memos on the computer incriminate Emiline Galloway for being involved in illegal smuggling at the Fairfield Greenhouse. Finish reading up the memos and exit the building, and make your way towards the greenhouse. The Fairfield Greenhouse is on the eastern end of the region.
Enter the Fairfield Greenhouse, and you’ll find Emiline standing right at the center of the building. Talk to her, and proceed through the conversation till she says she needs to get back to work. At this point, you have the option to confront her directly about the memos, and that’s what we recommend doing. She will then ponder over it and offer you a job with the Sub Rosa faction.

Your first task as a member of the Sub Rosa faction is to help delete any and all evidence that can be used against them, especially against Auntie Fizzo. This evidence is inconveniently placed on Officer Cardosa’s terminal, and your job is to now go and delete it.
Head to the western end of Fairfield (and toward the objective marker) to reach Cardosa’s cabin. She will be standing right outside the cabin, and there’s a keycard you need to pick up from the desk right in front of her. Talk to Cardosa and follow this chain of dialogue to distract her and get her away from the cabin:
- Now that you mention it, I could use some new accoutrements.
- Just here to admire the dropships. They’re really nice.
- What’s stopping you from pursuing that dream?
- I’m not familiar with dropships myself. Could you show me that one over there?
Cardosa will then walk away, and you can steal the keycard by the door and use it to access her terminal. Adjust the inventory total to delete all the evidence. Once that’s done, report back to Emiline to complete the quest and earn the following rewards:
- +15 Reputation for the Sub Rosa faction.
- Pistol silencer.
- 350 Bits.
