In this guide, find out how and in what situations you should resort to using non-lethal force in The Precinct.

As you patrol the streets of Averno as a rookie cop in The Precinct, you’ll come across a variety of unlawful situations. How you respond to them is your choice, but for the most part, you’ll need to try to keep every situation from escalating. Resolving a face-off with suspects peacefully will also earn you the greatest amount of XP in the game.
If your actions lead to unnecessary loss of lives, the game will penalize how much XP you get. So, in this guide, we’ll explain how non-lethal force in The Precinct works and when you should use it.
How To Use Non-lethal Force in The Precinct

While many dangerous crimes will require you to choose the lethal approach, there are several more where the non-lethal option works best. For instance, you can often subdue suspects by simply issuing a verbal warning to them.
In some cases, the suspect won’t be as compliant and may require you to use non-lethal tools to bring them down and arrest them. The following are the non-lethal weapons that you can get from the armory at the Police Station.
- Police Baton: This weapon can help maintain order and bring suspects under control without resorting to lethal weapon discharge.
- Electronic Stun Gun: If you are chasing after a suspect and they simply don’t heed your warnings, you can also use the stun gun on them. The 50,000-volt shock can slow or even completely stop them in their tracks.
You can easily identify non-lethal weapons on your toolbelt by their orange highlight. This can help you quickly pull them out while facing a suspect who doesn’t comply with your direct orders.

When Should You Use Non-lethal Force in The Precinct?

The standard procedure to follow is to switch to lethal force only if a suspect fires first or if they pose a direct threat to civilians. Otherwise, it’s always better to take the non-lethal approach. If you are pursuing a suspect through a crowded area, you should stick to non-lethal weapons. Otherwise, one of your shots could hit an innocent bystander. So, it is better to use tasers or batons to end the face-off peacefully and without causing any harm to anybody.
If you decide to use non-lethal force, make sure you separate the target from innocent bystanders nearby. Also, you can approach the unaware suspect from behind to ensure the least amount of resistance.
