Ash Ketchum, the ever-enthusiastic trainer from Pallet Town, seemed to be invincible. He barely aged, survived countless battles, and always bounced back no matter what. But did you know he actually died multiple times? Yep, you read that right. The boy who wanted to be a Pokemon Master saw the other side more than once.

How does he keep coming back? No one knows. You won’t hear him discussing the afterlife or his mysterious resurrections. But one thing is clear — Ash Ketchum is no ordinary kid. Let’s look at every time he has taken a trip to the afterlife and returned as if nothing happened.

5 Times Ash Ketchum Died in the Pokemon Series

1. The Time a Chandelier Crushed Him

While searching for a Pokemon to help him battle Sabrina, Ash ended up in Lavender Town’s haunted Pokemon Tower. It was all fun and games until a chandelier fell right on top of him and Pikachu. That was it. They were dead. Haunter, the mischievous Ghost-type, pulled their spirits out of their lifeless bodies. Ash even floated around, lifting Misty in the air just for fun.

But the adventure didn’t last long. He and Pikachu decided they had enough of ghost life and snapped back into their bodies — just in time for Brock and Misty to find them lying there, unconscious.

2. The Time He Became a Literal Stone Statue

If there was one moment that left fans sobbing, it was this one. Mew and Mewtwo’s battle reached a boiling point, and Ash — being Ash — threw himself into the crossfire. Bad move. The energy blasts turned him into stone right in front of everyone.

Pikachu refused to accept it. The little yellow buddy tried to shock Ash back to life, but nothing worked. Then, something magical happened. The Pokemon in the area, moved by Ash’s sacrifice, shed tears that somehow brought him back. Scientific explanation? None. Emotional damage? Maximum.

3. The Time He Got Devoured by a Giant Tree

What is worse than dying? Getting swallowed by a giant red blob inside a living tree. Ash and his friends stumbled into the Tree of Beginning, which didn’t take kindly to intruders. Its guardians — Regirock, Regice, and Registeel — sent out blobs that started eating people. Yep, full-on consuming them, one by one, and Ash was gone.

Lucky for him, Mew existed. Seeing how sad the Pokemon were after losing their trainers, Mew decided to rewind the chaos. Everyone, including Ash, popped back into existence. No one really questioned it — probably because they were just happy to be alive.

4. The Time He Drowned

Drowning is terrifying. Now imagine drowning while trying to save an ancient temple. Samiya, a hidden Water-type sanctuary, was on the brink of destruction. To stop the disaster, Ash had to retrieve a crystal. But the problem was he was deep underwater, and his air supply ran out. There was no dramatic struggle — just silence as he sank further down.

Luckily, Manaphy stepped in. Using its Heart Swap ability, it revived Ash and helped him get the crystal. He woke up as if nothing had happened, because of course, he did.

5. The Time He Froze to Death in Space

Space is not where a 10-year-old should be. Ash learned that the hard way. In his adventure with Victini, he got caught inside a force field way above the Earth’s atmosphere. He couldn’t escape. The cold started creeping in. He apologized to Victini for failing to keep a promise, and then, he froze solid.

But once again, death didn’t stick. Victini used its fiery move, Searing Shot, to warm him up and bring him back. Moments later, it was like nothing even happened.
