Elden Ring Nightreign is the newest entry in FromSoftware’s collection of games and a co-op spin-off of the wildly successful Elden Ring. Nightreign was unveiled at this year’s Game Awards, and although an exact release date has not been announced, the game is slated for release in 2025.

However, just because Nightreign is coming out this year does not mean it is coming soon. And fans are most certainly awaiting the arrival of FromSoftware’s next game with bated breath. In the meantime, here are five games you can play while waiting for Elden Ring Nightreign.

Dark Souls 3

Dark Souls 3 is the third game in the Dark Souls series, FromSoftware’s flagship product. The original Dark Souls was a spiritual successor to Demon’s Souls, the progenitor of the soulslike genre.

Dark Souls 3 is generally considered the best in the series and one of the greatest games ever made. For players who enjoyed Elden Ring, Dark Souls 3 is sure to be an unforgettable experience.

Additionally, the trailer for Nightreign shows the Nameless King, one of the iconic bosses from Dark Souls 3. As Nightreign will likely feature many other recurring characters from FromSoftware’s other properties, playing through some of them beforehand will make your Nightreign experience all the more enjoyable.

Monster Hunter World

Monster Hunter World is the best-selling game in the Monster Hunter franchise, and not without good reason. Its gameplay style and seamless map exploration have made it vastly popular among gamers. The game also has co-op features where you can work with other players to hunt enemies much larger and stronger than you.

The Soulsborne games are renowned for their difficulty, and Nightreign in particular has a large focus on co-op gameplay. Monster Hunter World, while not as difficult as Elden Ring, is no walk in the park, especially with its Iceborne DLC. The plethora of monsters have large HP pools and difficult-to-dodge attacks.

Players who enjoy a degree of challenge and working together with their friends should certainly give Monster Hunter World a try.

Lies of P is a soulslike game developed by Neowiz Games and Round8 Studio. Released in 2023, the game is loosely based on the story of Pinocchio. Featuring a steampunk world ravaged by epidemics and uprisings, Lies of P has a unique and interesting storyline that is much darker than the original 1883 novel.

Featuring creative bosses and a large degree of freedom in your style of combat, you can challenge bosses in a variety of ways. For fans of soulslike games, Lies of P is one of the best options on the market.

Dead Cells

Developed by Motion Twin, Dead Cells is an old roguelike, which has the player move through stages created via procedural generation. This makes every run a fresh and new start. You can try this game out to get used to the concept of procedural generation, as Elden Ring Nightreign will also feature a procedurally generated version of Limgrave.

Dead Cells also features a wide variety of weapons and equipment, which you can customize and mix and match, therefore making every run feel different from the last.

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice

Sekiro is another game by FromSoftware and is considered part of the Soulsborne series of games. The game is set in Japan and features the FromSoftware trademark of excellent bosses, beautifully designed maps, and extremely challenging gameplay. Sekiro’s style of combat is vastly different from the other Soulsborne games. This gives the game a unique feel that makes it all the more enjoyable.

Elden Ring players who love a challenge will similarly love Sekiro, which is possibly one of the hardest games FromSoftware has made. For those who want an excellent game to play in general, Sekiro is one of the best in the industry. Its quality is undeniable, as it is one of two FromSoftware games to have won the Game of the Year award, alongside Elden Ring.

These were five games you could play while Elden Ring Nightreign releases. What other games would you recommend?
