Learn how to increase your Grade in Type Soul for each faction. Understand the requirements from Trainee to Elite Grade.

In Type Soul, your Grade shows how far you’ve progressed in the game. It works across all factions and helps other players gauge your strength. Grades are separate from your level, but they are just as important. As your Grade increases, you unlock more areas, skills, and upgrades for your race. Reaching higher Grades takes time and effort, but it gives you access to the strongest parts of the game.
This guide explains how Grades work for Soul Reapers, Hollows, and Quincies, including what you need to reach Elite Grade.

How Grades Work in Type Soul
All new players start at 5th Grade, no matter their faction. You increase your Grade by gaining specific types of EXP. The kind of EXP you need changes as you move up. Common EXP types include:
- Mission EXP: From completing quest board missions
- Division EXP: From being in and working with a Soul Reaper Division
- Shikai/Schrift/Resurrección EXP: Tied to each race’s progression path
- Raid EXP: Earned by doing Raids
- Grip EXP: From finishing off enemy players
- Hollow Kills: NPC Hollow kills, important for Quincies
Soul Reaper Grade Progression

Trainee > 5th Grade
- Join a party and complete missions from the board.
5th Grade > Grade 3
- Only Mission EXP is needed.
- You can now travel to Soul Society and join a Division.
Grade 3 > Grade 2
- Requires both Mission EXP and Division EXP.
- Keep doing missions while helping your Division.
Grade 2 > Semi-grade 1
- Now you need Shikai EXP.
- Speak to your Shikai spirit and defeat it in your inner world.
- You still need Mission and Division EXP.
Semi-grade 1 > Elite Grade
- Requires all EXP types: Raid, Grip, Shikai, Mission, and Division.
- This is the final step and unlocks your best powers.

- Only needs Mission EXP.
- You’ll choose a path in the Kido Tree after Grade 2.
Semi-grade 1 > Elite Grade
- Needs Mission, Grip, and Raid EXP.
- The process is simpler but still requires consistent progress.
Quincy Grade Progression

Quincies also start at 5th Grade and have a clear route.
Grade 5 > Semi-grade 1
- Only Mission EXP is needed.
- Complete quest board missions by joining a party.
Semi-grade 1 > Elite Grade
- Requires Hollow NPC Kills, Mission, Raid, and Grip EXP.
- Killing Hollow NPCs is a must, so farm wisely.
What You Unlock with Higher Grades
Reaching higher Grades gives access to powerful skills and transformations:
- Soul Reaper: Unlocks Shikai, then Bankai, and Visored abilities at Elite Grade.
- Hollow/Arrancar: Unlocks Partial Resurrección, then Full Resurrección, and Segunda Etapa if you are a Vastocar.
- Quincy: Unlocks Schrift, then Vollständig, and finally Letzt Stil at Elite Grade.
You cannot unlock these forms without reaching the correct Grade and completing the needed EXP goals.
