The Gemini Cup is a Long (3,200m) Champions Meeting event in Umamusume Pretty Derby, and the second one following the Taurus Cup. Its long distance necessitates a focus on Stamina training for participants, with last spurt acceleration skills playing a key role.

However, much like with the Taurus Cup, using a debuffer build like Nice Nature can significantly weaken the opponents’ teams by sapping their Stamina and crippling their last spurt. Although debuffers won’t be as effective in the Long distance as they were in the Medium, having one in the team can still provide incredible value.

There are three main ways to use debuffers for the Gemini Cup:

  • Stamina Debuffer
  • Hybrid Debuffer
  • Sleeping Lion Debuffer

Stamina debuffers are the most effective, hitting most runners with their stamina-sapping skills. Hybrid debuffers have one or two debuffing skills, but also have the stats to win races. Sleeping Lion debuffers’ sole aim is to prevent Narita Taishin’s ‘Sleeping Lion’ skill from activating by having very low Power and falling behind.

  • Nice Nature (Potential Level 5): Late Surger
  • Matikanefukukitaru (Potential Level 3): Late Surger
  • Air Groove (Potential Level 3): Pace Chaser

Nice Nature is the most powerful Stamina debuffer for the Gemini Cup if you can get her to Potential Level 5 and unlock ‘All-Seeing Eyes.’ Obtaining All-Seeing Eyes is paramount for the build as it is the only rare (gold) Stamina-draining skill that can work in the Gemini Cup. Getting hit with All-Seeing Eyes is almost certainly a game over for runners in the Long race.

Matikanefukukitaru has the ‘Illusionist’ rare debuffing skill, which decreases the field of view of all runners ahead in the late-race. This can cause opponents to get blocked by runners ahead and struggle to weave out of the pack.

Air Groove is a good candidate as she possesses innate debuffing skills that target End Closers, which will be the strongest runners for the event. If you train her Stamina and Power to a decent level, she can also use ‘Dazzling Disorientation,’ but you’ll likely have to make her a hybrid debuffer to apply the skill consistently.

You should focus most on training Wit since activating all her skills is the debuffer’s main job. Stamina and Power need to be just enough to stay with the pack until the final corner.

Support Card Loadout

  • R Symboli Rudolf (Wit)
  • SR Agnes Tachyon (Wit)
  • SR Air Groove (Guts)
  • SSR Fine Motion (Wit)
  • SSR Rice Shower (Stamina)
  • SSR Kitasan Black (Speed)

R Symboli Rudolf has the highest number of debuffing skills, and SR Air Groove has two skills targeting End Closers. Apart from Kitasan Black, you don’t need to level up any of the Support Cards. If you don’t have some of the Support Cards, you can also use:

  • SSR Tamamo Cross (Stamina)
    • Or R Tamamo Cross (Stamina)
  • SR Aoi Kiryuin (Friend)
  • SR Nice Nature (Wit/Guts)

Use Legacies to inherit as many Stamina and Power Blue Sparks as possible.

Hybrid debuffers use the same stat training and loadout as you normally would for the Gemini Cup, with one key difference. They invest in innate debuffing skills. For this role, we need characters with at least one rare debuffing skill available innately through potential level-ups. Using both a Stamina debuffer and a hybrid debuffer will take a heavy toll on the opponent teams. Here are the best candidates for building hybrid debuffers with their relevant innate skills listed alongside them:

  • Super Creek: Pace Chaser
    • Dazzling Disorientation (Potential Level 3)
    • Hesitant Pace Chasers (Potential Level 4)
  • Air Groove (Original): Pace Chaser
    • Hesitant End Closers (Potential Level 2)
    • Dazzling Disorientation (Potential Level 3)
    • Flustered End Closers (Potential Level 4)
  • Matikanefukukitaru
    • Hesitant Front Runners
    • Illusionist (Potential Level 3)
    • Trick (Rear) (Potential Level 4)
  • Nice Nature
    • Hesitant Late Surgers (Potential Level 2)
    • All-Seeing Eyes (Potential Level 5)

Gemini Cup Sleeping Lion Debuffer Build

The sole purpose of the Sleeping Lion debuffer build is to ensure that Narita Taishin does not activate her rare Stamina-recovery skill, Sleeping Lion. The skill only activates if Narita Taishin has at least a 75m gap from the first uma. However, if you field an uma with very low Power as a Front Runner, she will fall behind the pack by mid-race.

This will confuse the AI and the runners will bunch up closer together, likely preventing Sleeping Lion from activating. The easiest way to do so is to use Haru Urara as Front Runner because she has a “G” aptitude for Turf. Not allowing Sleeping Lion to activate has nearly the same effect as hitting Narita Taishin with a gold stamina-draining skill. Since she is the best character for the Gemini Cup, using one runner to counter her can be justified.

Since the majority of players will not have Narita Taishin, only use this build if you make it to Group A after the first round, where advanced players are likely to field Narita Taishin.
