Races in Umamusume: Pretty Derby are categorized into four groups based on their lengths: Sprint, Mile, Medium, and Long. As umas (horse girls) begin a race, they consume stamina in proportion to their speed and acceleration. Upon nearing the final corner, each racer checks how much stamina they have remaining and starts their last spurt accordingly.

Therefore, the trick to training Stamina for every race category is knowing how much you need to begin the last spurt at its earliest point. Naturally, shorter races require less Stamina, and longer races more so. However, because Career Mode pads stats, knowing how much Stamina is needed for other game modes becomes tricky.

Stamina requirements between Career Mode and other game modes, including Team Trials, vary dramatically. This is because Career Mode can pad your uma’s stats by 400+, depending on the race, making Stamina seem far less important than it actually is.

Career

To clear career mode, your Stamina requirements are very low, and you are free to focus on Speed and Power to beat all the goal races. Here is how much stamina is needed in Career for each race type.

DistanceStamina
Sprint150
Mile350
Medium500
Long600

From these values, we can see why Sakura Bakushin O’s career of mostly Sprint races is considered the easiest. She can focus on only training Speed as a Front Runner and win all her races with sub-200 Stamina.

PvP and Other Game Modes

For Team Trials and other game modes like Daily Races and Legend Races, a different set of Stamina requirements exists.

DistanceStamina
Sprint550
Mile750
Medium1100
Long (2500m)1350
Long (3200m)1500

These Stamina requirements are 5% higher than listed values for Front Runners and Pace Chasers since their stamina-to-energy conversion ratios are the most inefficient. These Stamina values are also reliant on having around 500 Guts, and a lower Guts stat than that will increase the Stamina requirement.

It is difficult to meet all these requirements for every build and distance. To solve this issue, you will have to manage Support Cards and Stamina recovery (blue) skills efficiently. A Power card or two can replace a few Speed cards for shorter distances, as Power training adds Stamina too. Medium and Long races require a deck including one or two Stamina cards at least.

Effect of Stamina Recovery Skills

For each rare (golden) stamina recovery skill that activates, your Stamina requirements reduce by 200 for short distances and 250 for longer ones. Normal stamina skills replenish around 70-90 Stamina for half the Skill Point cost compared to rare skills. Therefore, having at least one rare stamina recovery skill is a must in nearly every category.
