R-rank is the lowest rarity of characters you can train in Umamusume Pretty Derby. Here’s a list of the top five R-ranked runners.
Umamusume Pretty Derby has many characters that you can get through the gacha system. Each character has a different rarity, which determines their starting stats and skills. Among all the rarities, R-ranked characters are the most common, as that is the lowest rarity the game has. However, even these characters have the potential to become winners and complete the URA Finale mode if trained properly.
To help you win careers, here’s a list of the five best R-ranked characters you can train in Umamusume Pretty Derby.

1. Sakura Bakushin O
Sakura Bakushin O is the best R-ranked character you can train due to her natural proficiencies. Each racer has a few stats that gain extra points when trained, and Sakura has a 20% increased bonus for Speed training. If you pair her with five Speed Support Cards and one Tazuna Support Card, you can train her Speed stat to a minimum of S-rank in every career playthrough.
In other words, R-ranked Sakura Bakushin O has the potential to become one of the fastest runners in the entire game.
2. Agnes Tachyon
Just like Sakura, Agnes Tachyon also has a 20% boost in Speed training, which you can combine with multiple Speed support cards. However, the reason for Agnes being a spot lower than Sakura is that she is only proficient in medium-length races.
When you play the URA Finale mode, you regularly have to run in Long or Mile races near the end of the career, which can become a hurdle when having Agnes as your trainee. However, if you get access to some good energy-regeneration skill like Swinging Maestro, you can easily complete the finals with Agnes Tachyon.
3. Haru Urara
Many players may think that Haru Urara is the weakest character in the game, which is true statistically, but her strength lies in her proficiency. Haru is currently the only R-ranked character who has A-ranked proficiency on Dirt surface races, whereas every other character is only proficient on Turf.
The key to winning with Haru is having good Support Cards and getting lucky with her random events. Moreover, you have to have an almost perfect training routine to reach the finals in the URA Finale mode.
4. Matikanefukukitaru
When your character has proficiency as a Late Surger, it is common for them to be blocked by the pack near the end of the race. This problem does not exist for Matikanefukukitaru, as her unique skill, Luck be With Me!, helps her to clear the path forward with the power of divination when jammed by others. As a Late Surger, this skill is one of the best that one can have during any type of race.
5. Winning Ticket
When it comes to stats, the second most important stat after Speed is Power. Power allows your trainee to reach her top speed much quicker than others. That said, Winning Ticket has a 20% boost in Power training, which easily allows her to reach at least A-rank in both Power and Speed with proper training. Having a good balance in both Speed and Power can help her complete most end-game races very comfortably.
