Learn how to effectively use Guts Support Cards in Umamusume: Pretty Derby, from niche builds to converting them into valuable Cleats.
The Guts stat in Umamusume: Pretty Derby provides esoteric effects and bonuses. Looking through the builds of top players, one can easily come to the conclusion that Guts plays no role in an uma’s success. Since it is the least important stat, any Guts Support cards you accumulate won’t be put to use in regular runs.
Guts Support Cards don’t work well in normal builds like other cards do. They take up valuable slots, Friendship Training turns, and limit the potential of your trainee. Therefore, acquiring several Guts cards can leave players confused about what to do with them.
Uses for Guts Support Cards in Umamusume: Pretty Derby
Guts Build
Having multiple high-level Guts Support cards will allow you to experiment with a Guts Build. Training Guts provides Speed and Power in addition to Guts itself, which becomes the foundation of the build. The most popular deck combination for the build is 3 Speed and 3 Guts cards. Here are some benefits of having a high Guts stat:
- Grants a speed boost when competing closely with another runner during the final stretch.
- Enhances Stamina efficiency and handling when navigating through corners.
- Decides the outcome of head-to-head position battles between Front Runners.
- Acts as a backup source of Stamina.
- Reduces Stamina drain while sustaining matching the pack’s running speed.
The Guts build works well over short distances and with Front Runners. Sprint and Mile races work best because you will have to invest in Stamina to a lesser extent. Additionally, Front Runners benefit the most from having high Guts, as winning duels allows them to maintain the lead, and the speed bonus in the last spurt helps secure victory. Although it may be interesting to experiment with a Guts build, it is by no means efficient or meta. Additionally, leveling up three Guts cards can prove to be very costly for newer players. Therefore, using Guts Support Cards for a dedicated build is costly and purely experimental.
Cleats
For most players, the best use of Guts Support Cards is to turn them into Cleats. To do so, head into:
- Enhance > Support Cards > Storage
Uncheck “Hide cards needed to uncap.” Then, select all Guts Support Cards and press “Convert.” Each Support Card will turn into Cleats according to its rating.
- SSR: Rainbow Cleats
- SR: Gold Cleats
- R: Silver Cleats
