100 Thieves co-owner Valkyrae’s streaming contract with YouTube has ended, and she will return to Twitch in January 2025.
Rachell Marie Hofstetter, aka Valkyrae, will return to Twitch on January 8, 2025. She posted on X that she will stream her return on her birthday and celebrate 10 years of streaming. The content creator has also planned a special marathon announcement for her return.
Content creators “Pokimane” Anys, Jack “NiceWigg” Martin, and many others congratulated the streamer. Ludwig Ahgren asked if she would multi-stream, but she replied, “What’s that?” and didn’t offer a direct answer.
After Valkyrae left Twitch, she averaged 1,500 concurrent viewers on YouTube for some time. However, by late 2020, she reached a peak concurrent viewership of over 100,000 viewers. During her time on YouTube, she won Content Creator of the Year at the 2020 Game Awards.
Why Did Valkyrae Leave Twitch?
Valkyrae signed her contract with YouTube in January 2020 for two years. During her time on YouTube, she extended her contract twice. She is returning to Twitch after five years. The streamer did not reveal if she will multi-stream or if she will exclusively stream on Twitch moving forward.
Shortly after leaving Twitch, she posted a video on YouTube explaining her decision to leave. She told her audience that she left due to financial security. Her mother had lost her job at the time, and she wanted to provide financial support.
The content creator revealed that the YouTube contract offered her almost $1 million per year, which gave her creative freedom. The YouTube contract did not restrict her content, and she was allowed to pursue things beyond gaming, like vlogs, fitness, and beauty content.
The Streamer “Felt Guilty” About Leaving Twitch
During an OfflineTV podcast episode, she said that Twitch made her an offer to return to the platform. At the time, she doubted her decision to quit Twitch and considered going back. She told Jeremy “Disguised Toast” Wang:
“I felt guilty. I felt like I’d abandoned my community. And I didn’t want to do that again.”
According to her, YouTube was lucrative, and she ultimately decided to stay on the platform. Other OfflineTV and Friends group members like Thomas “Sykkuno” and Lily “LilyPichu” Ki also moved from Twitch to YouTube due to varying reasons.
During her time off Twitch, Valkyrae became a co-owner of the gaming and esports organization 100 Thieves. She also founded Hihi Studios, a media company that produces anime-inspired IP for TV, film, and graphic novels.
