Popular VTuber Nanashi Mumei opened up about her chronic throat issues and how it affected her time at Hololive.

Popular VTuber Nanashi Mumei announced her graduation from VTuber agency Hololive after citing chronic health issues. She also stated that there were certain internal misalignments between her and the company. Mumei stated that she had a chronic coughing issue, which has affected her work.
The VTuber stated that she had tried to find resolutions around her health issues but wasn’t successful. She will be graduating from Hololive on April 28th, 2025. During the announcement stream, Nanashi stated:
“I made great efforts to find resolutions in all areas but ultimately decided this made the most sense for myself. All of this has been weighing very heavily on me for a very long time. As you probably noticed, my activity plummeted, especially within the last year. My frustrations and anxieties around everything made it increasingly more difficult to put myself in front of thousands of people.”
The streamer has previously complained about having issues with her throat. She mentioned during her stream, that her not being able to sing and perform took a toll on her mental health. Due to which, she had to step away from the stage.
Although she mentioned misalignment with the company, Mumei seemingly took the decision based on her health. She requested fans to not spread any negativity regarding the decision. Notably, Nanashi Mumei is not the only VTuber to cite misalignment issues with Hololive.
“I focus on participating in as many collaborations as possible. I’m still having to plan around my chronic coughing and external obligations.”
Since going public, Hololive has had several graduations from top VTubers like Ceres Fauna, Murasaki Shion, and Minato Aqua. However, Nanashi stated that her graduation was mostly affected by chronic cough.

I’m so grateful for everyone I’ve gotten to work with closely, whether it was other talents, managers, staff, artists, musicians—just everyone I got to work with on projects and super cool stuff I did here. And, of course, I’m so grateful for all of you.”
