Twitch temporarily banned Vtuber Olivia Monroe after Ubisoft erroneously filed a copyright complaint on her channel.

Video game publisher Ubisoft released Assassin’s Creed: Shadows on March 20, 2025, and partnered with multiple content creators to promote the game. Some Twitch streamers and YouTubers received early access to the game and livestreamed it but it led to some confusion and unwarranted bans. Twitch temporarily banned Vtuber Olivia Monroe after Ubisoft filed a copyright complaint against her and she proceeded to call out the publisher.
Monroe revealed that Ubisoft approached her to promote the game and both parties agreed upon a streaming schedule. Due to some confusion at Ubisoft’s end, the publisher thought Monroe was violating her non-disclosure agreement (NDA) and streamed at the incorrect time. Monroe revealed that Ubisoft community managers confused 7 PM with 7 AM in their documents, leading to her ban.
Ubisoft quickly rectified the situation and worked with Twitch to unban Olivia Monroe’s channel. Internet users made fun of the video game publisher and talked about how Assassin’s Creed: Shadows keeps finding itself in one controversy after another.
Why Did Twitch Ban Olivia Monroe?
After Twitch abruptly banned Olivia Monroe’s channel, she went to her Discord server to address the situation. The streamer said that Ubisoft was at fault in the situation:
“Ubisoft approved my time because they read it as 7PM not 7AM.”
For context, Ubisoft entirely caused this because they can’t tell the difference between AM and PM

After approaching Ubisoft, the community managers helped restore her account after five hours. She returned to her stream and said:
“Everything was approved, as you know, I’m a morning streamer. So, imagine my surprise when I go live and then I am banned. So I’m like, ‘huh, that’s interesting, because everything was approved!’ So, sure enough, I looked over at my email five minutes before I was banned, and I got an email saying I’m in breach of the embargo, which I had no idea about, because my time was approved.”
Assassin’s Creed: Shadows Is Facing Multiple Controversies
Olivia Monroe’s ban is not the only controversy Ubisoft has been involved in recently. Assassin Creed: Shadows’ launch is marred with controversy as internet users complained about the game allowing players to destroy real-world locations in-game.
Japan’s Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba addressed the controversy and said:
“Defacing a shrine is out of the question – it is an insult to the nation itself. When the Self-Defense Forces were deployed to Samawah, Iraq, we ensured they studied Islamic customs beforehand. Respecting the culture and religion of a country is fundamental, and we must make it clear that we will not simply accept acts that disregard them.”
The Prime Minister hopes people do not replicate actions in the game in real life and disfigure cultural spots. Ubisoft made changes to the game to ensure players cannot destroy religious structures. The publisher also delayed the game’s release last year to meet player expectations. After multiple delays, the game has launched with an 81% positive rating across 135 c reviews according to OpenCritic.
