In total, there are three difficulty options that you can choose from in Warhammer 40,000 Dawn of War Definitive Edition. These are the same three difficulty options that were featured in the original 2006 title as well. If you played the original game, you must have a fair idea about how these options work. Fortunately, you can change the difficulty setting mid-game as well, so you do not need to stress much about this. The three difficulty settings are:

  • Normal: Enemies have 50 percent health by default in this mode.
  • Hard: Enemies come with 100 percent health in the hard setting.
  • Insane: In the Insane difficulty setting, enemies have 150 percent health, making it the most difficult to beat them.

Which Difficulty Setting Should You Pick in Warhammer 40,000 Dawn of War

Which difficulty setting you pick is subjective and varies from player to player. The wisest option, however, is to always pick a lower difficulty and then move your way up. If you are someone who is just playing the game for the nostalgia factor or to experience Dawn of War briefly, the best difficulty option for you is ‘Normal.’ On the other hand, if you are actually diving into the game for the first time or are looking for a challenge, the ‘Hard’ difficulty will be perfect for you.

If you are a veteran in real-time strategy titles and/or a long-time fan of the Warhammer series, you should be picking the ‘Insane’ difficulty option. While it is the hardest difficulty option in the game, it is also the best way to experience Warhammer 40,000 Dawn of War. One thing that is worth noting though, is that the difficulty options in this game varies slightly from other video games. While the first difficulty option is named ‘Normal,’ it is equivalent to the ‘Easy’ difficulty. Similarly, ‘Hard’ should be considered ‘Normal’, and then the ‘Insane’ difficulty will be equal to the ‘Hard’ difficulty from other video games.
