Johnny Somali is facing further legal action after making a deepfake video of Korean streamer Bongbong kissing him.
Controversial streamer Ramsey “Johnny Somali” has again faced potential charges. He is already embroiled in a string of legal cases, which include his disruptive behavior in South Korea. Recently, Ramsey has also faced criticism over the use of a deepfake video featuring fellow streamer Bongbong. For those unaware, Bongbong is an IRL streamer on Kick who has just over 12K followers at the time of writing. The deepfake video in question showcased Bongbong kissing Ramsey.
The original stream saw Johnny Somali bring out a laptop, which played a brief video of the Korean streamer kissing him. However, an AI logo in the bottom right corner of the screen indicated that the video was doctored. While Somali’s stream has now been deleted, fans have managed to share the clip of the deepfake video on social media platforms. Here’s a censored screengrab of the alleged video:
As a consequence of this action, Bongbong later went to the Cheongwon Police Department to complain against Somali. Although the stream showing her visit to the authorities has since been deleted, it’s notable that Bongbong and Johnny Somali collaborated IRL before the deepfake controversy. Bongbong was heard calling Somali a “monkey” in the stream. Watch it here:
As for the deepfake controversy, reports suggest that Bongbong has decided to not press charges against him. However, Korean authorities have the power to incriminate the streamer at the back of the evidence provided. According to Reuters, a bill passed on September 26, 2024, imposes up to seven years in prison and a $22K fine for possessing sexually explicit deepfakes of others.
What Are the Other Charges Against Johnny Somali?
South Korean authorities are already investigating controversial streamer Johnny Somali, barring him from leaving the country. Reports state they have charged him with disruptive behavior and alleged drug use.
One of the most contentious moments in Johnny Somali’s IRL tour in South Korea occurred when he kissed a statue of a “comfort woman” at the Changdong History and Culture Park. The statue honors victims of Japan’s wartime sex slavery.
Naturally, this sparked a strong response from both the Korean community and the parliament. Johnny Somali has since publicly apologized, saying:
“To all the people in South Korea, I just wanna apologize for what I’ve done. I didn’t wanna hurt you guy’s pride this much. You guys are good people. And for the most part, other than Mr. Navy Seal here, I’ve had a great experience. It was not my intention to hurt you guys. I hope you guys can accept my apology. I’m a young person and I wanna grow as a man.”
He added:
“I will no longer talk about your statue, or touch it ever again. I hope that I can live in peace in South Korea and we can get past this situation.”
