FaZe Banks recently suggested Kanye West to launch a crypto currency. The post ended up garnering a lot of criticizm.
FaZe Clan member and YouTuber Richard “FaZe Banks” recently shared a rather viral response to one of Kanye West’s posts on X. For context, Kanye West was recently reinstated on X and has since gone on to make hundreds of posts, many of them questionable. In one of the posts yesterday (February 7, 2025), Ye asked his community how people make money off Crypto. FaZe Banks, who is no stranger to the cryptocurrency world, responded by suggesting the rapper make one himself. He wrote that his net worth would “10x” instantly. The YouTuber wrote this (now deleted):
“If you did this the right way, your net worth would 10 instantly. Would be the single largest wealth creation event in music since Sony acquiring the Beatles catalog in 2016. One of the largest in human history.”
Despite the suggestion, the post ended up creating a lot of criticism. Crypto has been a contentious topic for many since there have been a few creators who have allegedly engaged in rug pulls and pump-and-dump schemes. Banks himself has faced a lot of backlash over some of his crypto-related takes. For instance, some have called out Banks for allegedly leaking an episode of the Talk Tuah podcast, which resulted in the $HAWK coin shooting up in valuation. Here’s one of the replies:

While Kanye didn’t directly respond to FaZe Banks’ suggestion, he later made an X post showcasing how he was seemingly offered $2 million to promote a “scam” token:

What Is FaZe Bank’s Planned Crypto Initiative With Adin Ross?
FaZe Banks actively engages in various crypto projects. Recently, Adin Ross invited him to join his stream, where they discussed their plans to create a GTA 6 RP server with a crypto-related twist. Revealing their plans, Ross said:
“When GTA 6 drops, me and Rick (Banks) here are gonna make the biggest server together, we’re gonna do the best sh*t ever. It’s gonna be completely crypto, everything pro-crypto about it. It’s gonna change the game because GTA 6, I promise you guys, they alreadybought FiveM, it’s gonna be all RP.”

Additionally, Banks recently appeared on Hailey Welch’s Talk Tuah podcast. However, an episode was leaked online, causing the valuation of $HAWK to rise (jumping from $8 million market cap to $26 million in just 20 minutes). Banks later criticized Welch’s team for the leak and suggested she fire them.
It’s possible that these incidents led to the community criticizing Banks for his suggestion to Kanye West. Nonetheless, Banks explained that he commented because he has seen many celebrities attempt crypto projects and fail. He wrote the following:
“I’ve seen 1000 “celebrities” at this point attempt to work/ build in crypto and fall flat on their face. 10/10 times. I’ve asked myself “why” over and over and the conclusion I always come to is that they’re mishandled, misguided and just don’t know what they’re doing.”
