Popular tech YouTuber Marques Brownlee, aka MKBHD, recently found himself facing backlash online. For context, the YouTuber uploaded a video on November 12, 2024, titled How My Video Gear is Changing! In the video, he discusses how he plans to change some of his camera setups and switch to a more portable device (specifically the Osmo Action 5). While showcasing video footage from the device, the YouTuber inadvertently filmed himself going past the speed limit in a school zone.

MKBHD is one of the most popular creators on YouTube, with over 19 million subscribers. Naturally, this moment caught the attention of netizens. Some took to social media to call out the creator for driving recklessly. For instance, one user (@PlaygamerThree) criticized Brownlee for allegedly driving his car at 100 mph in a 35 mph zone. The user attached a screenshot from the video as evidence:

“@MKBHD (is) going 100 mph in a 35 zone w/ signs warning children are in the area and you’re approaching a school zone…you even tried to hide it by blurring the speed in the video. Do better.”

Marques Brownlee Addresses the Allegations

Marques Brownlee, aka MKBHD, is currently facing criticism after a video clip showed him briefly exceeding the speed limit. Although the moment was only a fraction of a second in his video, viewers quickly noticed and called him out. The YouTuber has since responded to the allegations.

The YouTuber addressed the issue on his X account, acknowledging that he did indeed exceed the speed limit and describing his actions as inexcusable. He wrote:

“Last video I did something pretty stupid. You might’ve already seen it, but maybe not so I’ll address it here. There was a clip with the action cam of me test-driving a car and going way too fast. Absolutely inexcusable and dangerous.”

He also noted that he had removed that segment from the original YouTube video, as he felt it was the right thing to do. He concluded his statement with an apology, assuring viewers that he would not repeat such behavior in the future:

“There’s no reason to leave that clip in (there was no reason to include it in the first place) and I would never want to make it seem ok by leaving it in the video. I’m well aware of the Streisand effect, and I know everything on the internet lives forever, but I think that’s the best decision right now. All I can do apologize and promise never to do anything close to that stupid again. That’s a terrible example to set and I’m sorry for it.”

This isn’t the first time MKBHD has faced criticism recently. The YouTuber also came under fire after launching a wallpaper app called Panels. Fans quickly voiced their displeasure over the app’s steep fee, which could go up to $50.
