The Setting of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
The game has a dark fantasy setting, which seems inspired by the Belle Epoque era. The human population is reducing in numbers every year, as the Paintress paints their demise upon her monolith. You will be able to explore various locations such as the Island of Visages and the Forgotten Battlefield.
Moreover, the developers have stated that they wanted to create a darker tone of story. We will witness these characters experience loss and overcome this looming threat.

We follow Expedition 33 on their journey to stop the Paintress from counting further down and causing more death. The Paintress is a mysterious entity we do not know much about. Every year, she writes a number on her monolith, which goes down as the years progress. Eventually, this will surely cause the end of all humans.
The main characters who embark on this expedition include Gustave, Maelle, Sciel, and Lune. Eventually, they are also joined by a character named Monoco. These characters all have their own reasons for embarking on this quest against the Paintress, which will be revealed in due time.
All of these characters have their own motivations for going on the expedition. For instance, Gustave and Lune might argue with each other, but they know that the mission is top priority. Their purpose is to reach the Paintress, one way or another.
Along the way, they will meet many different enemies and allies, who will hinder or help them on their journey. On top of these, we have characters like Renoir and Verso, whose motivations and allegiances are unclear presently. These different parties will surely keep our team on their toes throughout their journey.
