Fish of Fortune Explained

Koi’s passive, Fish of Fortune, gives you a 0.61% chance to get the egg back when you hatch it. This ability doesn’t work on Premium or Exotic eggs.
Even though the official banner said the pet boosts egg hatch luck, its real function is to refund the egg itself, which has disappointed some players. Still, if the ability procs, you’ll end up keeping both the pet and the egg, essentially duplicating it.
The passive can stack, so if you equip multiple Koi pets, your refund chance increases. For example, 8 Kois give you a combined ~4.88% refund chance per hatch.
This makes Koi incredibly useful for farming rare non-premium pets like Kitsune, especially if you’re trying to build duplicates.
Is Koi Worth Using?
Yes, but only if you’re hatching non-premium eggs regularly. While the refund chance is low, stacking Koi pets increases your odds, and the long-term benefit of egg recovery can pay off big.
Many players wish the chance were slightly higher (e.g., 1%), but it’s still one of the few passives that directly offsets your hatching costs.

Appearance
The Koi resembles a real-life koi fish, with a mostly white body and black/orange spots in its standard form. It’s currently the only pet that comes in multiple color variants, adding a nice visual flair to your garden.
How To Farm Chi for the Koi

To get enough Chi to buy Koi, you’ll need to submit crops to the Zen Channeller. Here’s how:
- Submit Tranquil mutated crops to the Zen Channeller (the monk sitting near the Zen Tree).
- Each submission gives you Chi, which you can use in the Zen Shop.
Grow the Zen Tree four times this way to unlock the Koi in the shop.
The Koi pet may not boost hatch luck as advertised, but its ability to refund eggs makes it a strategic choice for players farming rare pets. If you’re looking to optimize your garden for egg farming, Koi is still worth the investment, just don’t expect miracles with a single one.
