What Does Rare Candy Do in Pokemon TCG Pocket

Rare Candy’s description states: Choose one of your Basic Pokemon in play. If you have a Stage two card in your hand that evolves from that Pokemon, put that card onto the Basic Pokemon to evolve it, skipping the first stage. You can’t use this card during your first turn or on a Basic Pokemon that was put into play this turn.

In the mainline games, rare candies serve as a shortcut to growing stronger by leveling up your Pokemon. Similarly, in the TCG, they let you bring out your stage two Pokemon faster by skipping the stage one evolution.

This card is incredibly powerful as it allows your stage two Pokemon to enter the stage one turn quicker. Also, this card allows your deck to be more consistent, as you have more cards to open the path to your stage two Pokemon.

Rare Candy does have its weaknesses, however. First of all, you cannot use it on your first turn. Secondly, you cannot use it on a basic Pokemon on the turn you played them. However, this does mean that you can use it to get a stage 2 Pokemon as early as the second turn.

Lastly, Rare Candy remains attached to the Pokemon it brings out, preventing you from attaching other items to strengthen them, such as the Giant Cape or Rocky Helmet.

Which Decks Could Use Rare Candy in Pokemon TCG Pocket

In general, any deck that uses stage 2 Pokemon (like Meowsacarada or Beedrill ex) should benefit greatly from Rare Candy. The upcoming Solgaleo ex and Lunala ex cards should also find this card most useful, as they are unique legendaries that are also stage 2 Pokemon.

Evolving them straight from Cosmog to their respective final stage evolutions will let you save an extra turn of setup. This is particularly noticeable with cards like Beedrill and Meowscarada, which only need two energy to use their strongest moves.

This allows them to start their combo a turn early. And that was why everyone is excited over the addition of the Rare Candy in Pokemon TCG Pocket.
