In 2023, the renowned Twitch streamer visited his hometown, New York, along with his other AMP group members. He announced a giveaway and later ended up getting arrested for the same. The AMP group members are some of the most popular streamers in the industry. Their planned giveaway brought in thousands of fans at New York’s Union Square, causing havoc.

Kai Cenat has 6.5 million followers on Twitch at the time. On August 5, 2023, Cenat shared a social media post stating that he would be hosting a giveaway of PS5 Consoles, gaming accessories, and gift cards. The organizers were unable to anticipate the huge number of fans showing up and took the situation lightly. Eventually, a riot ensued.

Later, New York City Police Department (NYPD) confirmed that Kai Cenat has been arrested for rioting, encouraging a riot, and assembling a massive crowd unlawfully. Though Cenat announced that the giveaway would be held at 4 p.m., people started assembling as early as 1:30 p.m., in hopes of snatching anticipated gifts like gaming consoles and gaming chairs.

What Exactly Happened at Kai Cenat’s Giveaway?

The situation with Kai Cenat’s giveaway escalated quickly and spiraled out of control when the crowd started setting off fireworks, hurling bottles at the police officers, and create an unmanageable jam. The NYPD officials tried to control the crowd, but it kept getting out of hand.

Some teenagers went rampant—throwing objects at vehicles and assaulting each other. Some of Kai Cenat’s fans also climbed on cars and caused a ruckus. Authorities revealed that a 17-year-old was admitted to the hospital. Participants knocked over barricades and attacked the officials using various items.

The star Twitch streamer asked his fans to go home on an Instagram Live. He said “You gotta go home, oh my gosh! Ei look, bro what the f*ck.”

The authorities arrested 66 people. Many vehicles and property were damaged. After the riot, Kai Cenat took to Snapchat to apologize for the havoc.

“When I promoted a giveaway PS5s in Union Square Park, it created an unintentional dangerous situation due to the way I promoted and advertised it. The result was an unsafe situation for the people who live and work in the neighborhood, first responders, and my followers that attended the event. I apologize for the disruption and damage to the community, the part, the vehicles, and the storefronts in the area.”

“Any Means Possible” or AMP group members claimed that they had never experienced something so bizzare. They said all they wanted was to create a positive experience for their fans and show appreciation.

“Yesterday, members of AMP hoped to create a positive experience for fans and give back as a show of appreciation for their support. We’ve hosted fan meet-ups and video shoots in the past, but we’ve never experienced anything at the scale of what took place yesterday. We recognize that our audience and influence are growing, and with that comes greater responsibility. We are deeply disheartened by the outbreak of disorderly conduct that affected innocent people and businesses, and do not condone that behavior.”
