If you already played The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom, you might have caught a few glimpses of the Imprisoning War that took place decades in the past.

Fight the Imprisoning War in Hyrule Warriors Age of Imprisonment
In The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom, Link and Princess Zelda were hot on the heels of King Ganondorf’s return. During the prologue, Link loses his arm and the Master Sword, while Zelda plummets into an abyss, but is accidentally sent back years to the past. You might have caught a few flashbacks that center around the Imprisoning War, but this game will allow everyone a front-row seat to the ongoing war.
In Hyrule Warriors Age of Imprisonment, Princess Zelda takes center stage and fights alongside King Rauru. There is a handful of playable characters, such as:
- Mineru: Rauru’s sister, and sage in Tears of the Kingdom.
- Queen Sonia: The former Queen of Hyrule who can reverse time.
- Agraston: The Fire Sage and ancestor of Yunobo.
- Qia: The Water Sage and predecessor of Sidon.
- Ardi: The Lightning Sage and ancestor of Riju.
- Raphica: The Wind Sage and ancestor of Tulin.
All of these characters were referenced in Tears of the Kingdom. Most of them are the ancestors of the present sages and have similar abilities. Returning players will notice identical assets and abilities that were heavily used in the previous game, for a much more streamlined experience.
This Is a Prequel, and a History Lesson
Unlike the recent Zelda games, this is more of a hack-and-slash experience. Similar to the previous Hyrule Warriors game, combat is much more fluid. It would make sense, considering the events of this game are happening during the Imprisoning War.
