March of the Dead in Where Winds Meet is a Jianghu Legacy side quest that you run into in the Granary of Plenty area of Kaifeng. You reach this region early in your Kaifeng progress, but the quest itself stays hidden unless you check notices, talk to people, and look around a bit more than usual.

You can start March of the Dead once you reach Kaifeng. Head into the Granary of Plenty and check the bounty board first. That is your starting hint. After that, look for a ruined temple nearby. The quest begins properly once you step inside and investigate the interior. You soon fight a small group of Unbound Cavern members. Clearing them reveals fresh rumours about strange figures appearing near the Ghostlight Market.

The game points you toward a lantern known as Sword Horizon. This part sets you on track for the item hunt.

How To Complete March of the Dead in Where Winds Meet

Completing the March of the Dead side quest takes several steps, and you have to move back and forth a bit. Follow Sword Horizon until you find a treasure chest that holds three items: Mountain Armor, Battle Helmet, and Iron Spear.

Once you have these, set the in-game clock to the hour of Mao. This is important because the Ghostlight Market closes during that hour, and that is the moment the spectral procession appears. If the timing is wrong, nothing shows up.

Return to the marker and hand over the items. Then, you will receive ghost armor. Equip it right away because it hides your aura, letting you follow the spectral soldiers without pulling unwanted fights. Keep close but quiet while the procession moves. They eventually guide you to a hidden ghost gate. Walk through it to reach the final area and prepare for the boss, Zhu Yousheng.

Boss Fight: Zhu Yousheng

Zhu Yousheng relies on timing-heavy patterns. You deal with two colour cues:

  • Red swings can be parried perfectly to counter.
  • Gold swings must be dodged fully.

Parrying matters a lot here because it helps you bring down his Qi bar. When the Qi bar empties, he drops into an exhaust state where you can deal heavy damage. Use that entire window before triggering your Execute move. Waiting until the last moment gives you the most value.

Lock-on helps with tracking, though you can switch it off if you feel too boxed in. If your gear setup uses a healing support weapon in the secondary slot, you get a small safety net during longer attempts.

Once he falls, talk to the Nine Mortal Ways disciples nearby to finish the quest.
