Hidari, Sasuke’s God Tree clone in Boruto, wields immense power. See his origins, abilities, and complex connection to the Uchiha legacy.
In Boruto: Two Blue Vortex, a mysterious new villain named Hidari has emerged as one of the most intriguing antagonists in the series. Hidari in Boruto is a self-aware Human God Tree clone created from Sasuke Uchiha’s chakra. The taciturn clone has quickly become a central figure in the current story timeline.
It is due to his obsessive focus on Sarada Uchiha, whom he has chosen as his target to devour. This marked him an incredibly powerful and complex character who possesses many of Sasuke’s abilities along with unique powers of his own.
Origins and Creation of Hidari
The creation of Hidari in Boruto emanates from a gloomy confrontation during the series’ time skip period. During this time, Code hunted down Boruto Uzumaki, leading to a harsh battle where Sasuke Uchiha stepped in to protect his student. Despite displaying tremendous strength and managing to take one of Code’s eyes, Sasuke ultimately fell to Code’s army of Claw Grimes.
In the battle, it was proven Sasuke had grown significantly stronger, as he could challenge Code, who possessed power surpassing even Jigen. However, this wasn’t enough to prevent what came next – one of the Claw Grimes bit Sasuke, transforming him into a God Tree. This transformation process drained Sasuke’s chakra, leading to the birth of Hidari as a self-aware Human God Tree clone.
The process that created Hidari was unique, as he emerged as part of a new generation of evolved, self-aware Human God Trees produced by Code’s Ten-Tails. Unlike regular clones, these beings developed their own consciousness and individual identities, though shaped by the emotions and bonds of their chakra sources. This explains why Hidari, despite being a separate entity, carries traces of Sasuke’s emotional connections and memories.
Hidari’s Powers and Abilities in Boruto
Hidari is an exceptionally powerful entity, possessing abilities that make him a formidable threat in Boruto. His power level surpasses that of his creator, Code, and he can effectively pressure Boruto despite the latter’s complete Ōtsutsuki form. As a genetic clone of Sasuke, Hidari has inherited an amazing arsenal of jutsu. It includes the ability to use Lightning Release and execute the Chidori. Yet, he struggles to use it effectively without a Sharingan.
He also has extraordinary pace and strength, advancing so swiftly that even experienced fighters like Boruto and Code struggle to react to his movements. His body can transform in unusual ways, such as morphing his forearms into curved blades for combat.
As a Human God Tree, he also commands Wood Release, Earth Release, and Water Release, allowing him to create powerful constructs to trap his opponents. Perhaps most notably, Hidari possesses the Rinnegan, granting him access to powerful visual jutsu.
Hidari’s Connection to Sasuke
The connection between Hidari and Sasuke in Boruto is a very complex character dynamic. Although Hidari physically corresponds to Sasuke, lacking only eyebrows and hair, his connection is deeper than appearance. He wears a specific black, studded cloak with a pale yellow lining – interestingly, an inverse of Sasuke’s blue-lined cloak in the manga. Even his name, “Hidari,” meaning “left” in Japanese, illustrates multiple connections to Sasuke, who was left-handed and the darker path of the shinobi world.
Despite being a separate entity, Hidari struggles with his identity precisely because of his connection to Sasuke. His personality and emotions are shaped by Sasuke’s feelings and bonds, creating a complex internal conflict. This conflict manifests in his untalkative nature and constant questioning of his existence.
While other Human God Trees seem more certain of their purpose, Hidari remains the most unclear about his identity, frequently pondering who he truly is and what his existence means in relation to Sasuke’s legacy.
Hidari Hunting for Sarada in Boruto
The most compelling aspect of Hidari’s character in Boruto emerges through his fixation on Sarada Uchiha. Hidari’s choice of Sarada as his prey arises from a deeper, more complex motivation. This targeting isn’t random – it’s directly influenced by the residual emotional connections inherited from Sasuke’s chakra. When confronting Sarada, Hidari’s typically stoic demeanor shifts, revealing his desperate search for self-understanding through his connection to her.
This pursuit has led to several intense confrontations, with Hidari, displaying his tremendous power and psychological complexity. During their encounters, he often questions Sarada about her identity, hoping that devouring her might help him understand his existence.
Subsequently, this creates a fascinating dynamic where Sarada must face an entity that is and isn’t her father. The situation has forced Sarada to grow stronger, potentially setting up opportunities for her to develop her Mangekyo Sharingan powers further.
