Everything you need to know about Melina Juergens, the face and voice behind one of gaming’s most iconic heroines, Senua.

Melina Juergens, the face and voice behind Senua, has won the Best Performance award at The Game Awards 2024. This makes her the first two-time Best Performance award winner at TGA. Although most fans know Melina as Senua, very few know about her past and how she started as an employee at Ninja Theory before becoming the face of the studio itself.
The Hellblade games, despite being narrative-driven action-adventure titles, offered a very unique experience compared to anything out there. The original Hellblade was an incredibly surreal title that tackled some really complicated subjects. However, with the sequel, Ninja Theory upped the ante while also staying true to the original’s vision.
Powering the games’ story was Melina’s incredible performance as Senua. Here’s everything you need to know about Melina Juergens and her accomplishments as Hellblade’s Senua.
Who Is Melina Juergens
Melina Juergens started as a photography and video editor at Ninja Theory. However, during the development of Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice, she was pitched in as the protagonist’s face and voice. Due to the project’s limited budget, Ninja Theory had to resort to using their employees as motion capture and voice actors for Hellblade.
However, Melina’s sincerity in playing Senua and the emotions she was able to portray ended up resonating with players worldwide. Many fans even cited Melina’s acting as the highlight of the entire Hellblade experience. Melina’s role as Senua also landed her the Best Performance award at The Game Awards 2017.

With the recent release of Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2, Melina once again delivered a similar, if not better, performance as the titular protagonist. Unsurprisingly, Melina once again won the Best Performance award for her role as Senua in the sequel. Melina was nominated alongside Luke Roberts (James Sunderland – Silent Hill 2), Briana White (Aerith Gainsborough – Final Fantasy VII Rebirth), Hannah Telle (Max Caulfield – Life Is Strange: Double Exposure), and Humberly Gonzalez (Kay Vess – Star Wars Outlaws).
Has Melina Juergens Voice Acted in Other Games
As of writing this article, Melina is currently employed at Ninja Theory as the principal photography and video editor. As such, naturally, she has not had the opportunity to voice in other games outside of her studio. However, she has been one of the guest speakers at GDQ 2024 as well as a presenter at the Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase (Starfield Showcase) 2023.
