Mizutsune is arguably one of the most elegant-looking creatures in the Monster Hunter franchise. It’s a type of male Leviathan featuring flowing fur, bubble-based attacks, and graceful movements. This creature is highly agile thanks to its ability to secrete soapy substances on its entire body. This allows it to slide across the terrain.

However, its elegance does not really reflect its behavior in the wild, at least during a specific season. While it prefers solitude most of the time, Mizutsune are extremely aggressive and go berserk during mating season. This causes trouble for nearby settlements or other wild creatures. This is why hunters are dispatched to help solve this issue.

Mizutsune Origin in Monster Hunter

Mizutsune made its debut in Monster Hunter Generations as one of the game’s flagship monsters. It represents the title alongside other monsters like Astalos, Gammoth, and Glavenus. This Leviathan is known for its ethereal, fox-like appearance and is often associated with water and tranquility. However, hunters who underestimate its power quickly realize its lethal nature.

In terms of lore, Mizutsune is not very aggressive but can be territorial at times. It resides in misty, water-rich environments. These Leviathans primarily prey on smaller creatures and fish, using their bubble-based abilities to incapacitate and catch prey. It moves around the area by secreting a soap-like fluid from its body. This creates slippery bubbles that it uses to slither around the area or hinder its target’s movement.

Since its initial debut in Monster Hunter Generations, Mizutsune has appeared in multiple installments, as well as spin-offs and crossovers. It looks like the elegant Leviathan is back for another appearance in the upcoming open-world setting of Monster Hunter Wilds.

Mizutsune’s Abilities in Monster Hunter

Mizutsune is known for its fluid, dance-like movements, and unconventional combat style. Unlike brute-force monsters, this Leviathan utilizes its agility, slippery body, and long-range bubble attacks to disorient hunters. This creature can also pressurize water streams, which can be lethal. This attack is often followed up with a tail swipe to catch the enemy off guard.

Its attacks become more dangerous when enraged, releasing more bubble attacks at a faster rate. Additionally, you’ll mostly be fighting this creature in misty environments, slightly impairing your vision.

You get your chance to hunt down Mizutsune when Monster Hunter Wilds officially launches on February 28, 2025. If you want to get your hands on the game as early as possible, you can try playing the beta testing phase. The OBT phase of the game will be free to access across all platforms, including PC via Steam, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
