The GTA 6 release date has finally been revealed, and Rockstar Games is delaying the title from its original stipulated launch in 2025. There’s more than a year’s wait ahead of us, and fans will surely be wondering what led to the developers pushing the release back. That’s what we are here to discuss.

GTA 6 Delay Explained By Rockstar Games

For those who have been diligently following any news regarding GTA 6, a 2025 release was confirmed both in Trailer 1 and in subsequent developments like Take-Two Interactive’s earnings calls. The community was told that the game would appear in Fall 2025. For context, Trailer 1 appeared back in December 2023 and provided a glimpse at the in-game world and the protagonists involved. After that, Rockstar Games has been largely mum, with a Trailer 2 still missing.

GTA 6 is now scheduled to release on May 26, 2025.

So, why did GTA 6 release get delayed? Rockstar Games says it is to polish the game further and bring it up to the expectations of the fans around the world. In their words:

“We are very sorry that this is later than you expected. The interest and excitement surrounding a new Grand Theft Auto has been truly humbling for our entire team. We want to thank you for your support and your patience as we work to finish the game. With every game we have released, the goal has always been to try and exceed your expectations, and Grand Theft Auto VI is no exception. We hope you understand that we need this extra time to deliver at the level of quality you expect and deserve.”

For those unaware, GTA 5 had seen a similar post back before its launch. When we got the predecessor’s release date of September 17, 2023, Rockstar Games acknowledged that they were pushing the launch by roughly four months. They further had described the title as “a massively ambitious and complex game” and that it needed “a little more polish to be of the standard we and, more importantly, you require.” The end result spoke for itself, with GTA 5 still seeing almost 100k players on Steam.
