Here’s what you need to know about whether Arc Raiders will be a free-to-play title or launch with a price point.
Arc Raiders was initially planned to be a free-to-play title, but the decision was changed to launch it as a $40 game instead. This was announced shortly after the game’s reveal back in August 2024. Despite the change, fans are looking on the bright side, claiming that if the game is polished, the price will be worth it.
Arc Raiders is a multiplayer extraction shooter currently in its tech test phase. It’s a multiplayer extraction shooter where players battle a machine abomination threatening Earth’s future. Players can join the playtest on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.

Can You Play Arc Raiders for Free?
Once Arc Raiders exits the testing phase, it will be available as a premium offering for $40. The game will be released on PC via Steam and Epic Games. As for consoles, it will be available on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
For now, players can participate in the second tech test, which will run from April 30 to May 4, 2025. If you receive an invitation, this is the only way to play the game for free. However, the playtest will only last a few days, so make the most of it.
How To Register for the Arc Raiders Tech Test
If you want to join Arc Raiders Tech Test 2, follow the step-by-step process below:
- Visit the website of Arc Raiders.
- From the main page, select the “SIGN UP FOR TECH TEST 2” button.
- Choose the platform you want to play the game on.
- Complete the registration process.
- Wait for your invitation to arrive.
If you want to play the game on Steam, the process is slightly different:
- Open Steam and log in with your account.
- Head to the game page of Arc Raiders.
- Click on the “Request Access” button in the playtest section.
- Wait for your invitation to play the game.
Keep in mind that Arc Raiders Tech Test 2 does not reflect the final version of the game. It is only a test build where developers will make changes and polish the game before release.
