The Mega Evolution set of the Pokemon TCG has seen some cards become must-haves for players. However, others were a lot more disappointing. Either they were not as good as expected or just are not worth using because the cost of playing them is not worth it. So, in this article, we will look at the cards from Mega Evolution that were a bit of a disappointment.

Disappointing Cards From the Mega Evolution Set of the Pokemon TCG

These cards have not lived up to the hype:

  • Mega Gardevoir ex
  • Lt. Surge’s Bargain
  • Inteleon
  • Wally’s Compassion
  • Mega Signal

5) Mega Gardevoir Ex

Now, Mega Gardevoir ex is not necessarily a bad card. It’s a decent draw engine for Psychic Energy as well as a powerful damage dealer. However, it is competing with Gardevoir ex, which is one of the best decks in the meta and the current World Champion. So Mega Gardevoir ex is not only competing with a better version of itself, but is also going to cost players more Prizes if it is KOd. That said, it can see play…as part of Gardevoir ex decks.

4) Lt. Surge’s Bargain

This Supporter is meant to be a high risk, high reward card. Lt. Surge’s Bargain gives both players the option to take a Prize card. If the opponent declines, you can draw four cards. This appears to be a way to force your opponent to let you draw cards. However, there are better cards for this, as well as draw engines like Lunatone and Alakazam. So, it’s really not worth risking your Prizes and as such is not really worth using.

3) Inteleon

Inteleon was hyped up massively in the lead up to Mega Evolution’s release. This was because of its move Bring Down, which was guaranteed to KO any Pokemon in play as long as it had the lowest HP in play. However, as being able to do this to just your opponent would be too overpowered, this applies to all Pokemon on the playing field. As such, it is a lot harder to pull off Inteleon’s Bring Down without risking your own Pokemon.

2) Wally’s Compassion

Wally’s Compassion was marketed heavily alongside Lillie’s Determination as one of the most notable Supporters of the Mega Evolution expansion. However, while Lillie’s Determination has become a staple of most decks, Wally’s Compassion has not. This card will heal any Mega Pokemon ex to full HP. However, the catch is that all the Energy attached to it is returned to your hand. This makes Mega Pokemon ex that need more than one Energy harder to set up again. Additionally, most Megas have high HP stats, making it harder to lower their HP. As such, this makes Wally’s Compassion less likely to be used right now.

1) Mega Signal

Mega Signal is a useful Item card…on paper. It lets you find a Mega Evolution Pokemon ex from your deck and put it in your hand. However, you can find Mega Pokemon ex through other cards like Ultra Ball. Additionally, this card only works for Mega Evolution Pokemon ex. So Basic Pokemon like Mega Mawile ex, Mega Kangaskhan ex, or Mega Latias ex cannot be drawn with this card. As such, it’s the biggest disappointment from the Mega Evolution set.
