Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is the newest title in the mainline Final Fantasy games, developed and published by Square Enix. In addition to the story and quests, the game has a focus on open-world exploration and combat. However, its predecessor, Final Fantasy 7 Remake, was more linear in how it flowed.

The game features a huge map, which makes getting from one location to another a significant challenge. However, this game also includes a time saving Fast Travel feature to combat this problem. Unlocking the ability to Fast Travel between regions requires you to complete the ‘Stuck in a Rut’ side quest.

Fast Travel within a Region in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth

Fast Traveling within a region is simple and works almost the same as it does in other open world games. You can open the map, select a location marker, and are allowed to teleport without any cost. The problem arises when you want to Fast Travel between regions, which becomes a more complicated procedure and requires completing various tasks.

Moreover, talking to Chadley in the grasslands will open a series of ‘World Intel’ locations. Each of these locations offers various rewards and also becomes a Fast Travel location (as long as you have that region’s chocobo)

‘Stuck in a Rut’ can be started after you get out of the Mythril Mines and starts Chapter 4 of the main story, which is placed in Junon. Here, there will be a man with markings on his entire body, called Gabe. You can find Gabe near the chocobo farm.

This quest requires you to find materials to fix Gabe’s carriage. It must be noted that completing this quest does require you to have the  mountain chocobo, Belle, unlocked, as the quest utilizes the unique ability to ascend and descend vertically on walls. You need to go east of the farm, and complete a stealth puzzle involving carts to wrangle and acquire the mountain chocobo.

The Repairman and the Map

This next part of the quest requires you to head towards Expedition Intel 1: Chocobluff Lifespring and locate a set of stairs next to it, which lead up to  Wainwright’s Hut. Talking to the sleeping repairman here will reveal a crude map which highlights three locations. Completing the quest and unlocking Fast Travel requires you to collect all 3 materials.

There are 3 pieces of Dried Driftwood at all 3 marked locations. Once you arrive at each location marked on the map, your chocobo should sense the hidden items. Interacting with these points will make our feathered friends dig up the piece of Dried Driftwood at that location. After you have 3 Dried Driftwood, bringing these to Wainwright will reward you with the Carriage Bed, Carriage Brace and the Carriage Wheel.

Deliver the Materials to Gabe

The end is near, all that’s left is to take these newly acquired parts and deliver them to the old man. Gabe will receive the parts, and use them to fix up his broken carriage. After the dialogue finishes, you will receive all the rewards associated with the quest, along with the option to Fast Travel between Junon region and the grasslands without entering the long mines.

  • 10 pieces of mellow oak
  • Queensguard Bangle
  • 10 party EXP
  • EXP (changes based on difficulty)
  • Increased relationship with Aerith
  • And most importantly, the Chocobo Carriage service which allows for Fast Travel between Junon and the Grasslands

The game also features a Fast Travel method between regions once you finish the game, so that once you have completed the story, you are free to come back and explore whatever region they want. That wraps up our guide on ‘How to Unlock Fast Travel in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth’
