In Monster Hunter Wilds (or MHW), Alma is the Handler assigned to the Avis Unit, which includes the protagonist Hunter. She handles monster hunt requests and necessary quests while also being a treasure trove of knowledge on tackling fearsome beasts and learning about the environments.
“The hunter’s “Handler”—one who manages monster hunt requests, permissions, and quests. She’ll accompany you out on quests and provide valuable support and knowledge. A specialist in cultural anthropology and an avid archaeologist.”
What Is Alma’s Role in Monster Hunter Wilds Story?
Alma is ever present with you during the entire course of the game. She authorizes each of your hunts (and reminds you if some monsters aren’t currently authorized), quips in with useful information and tips, and is overall a proper support presence than the handler back in World. She is well-versed in her subjects but understands there’s much to learn in the alien world of the Forbidden Lands. Her specialization in cultural anthropology and archaeology plays out well here.

You will learn about Alma’s backstory before she joins you for the expedition in the Forbidden Lands when you are sheltering from your first encounter with a Hirabami in Iceshard Cliffs. When you interact with her during that time, your character asks why Alma proposed the Hunter’s name to Fabius for the expedition. Alma responds:
“I guess…I wanted someone who understood what it was like to lose something important.”
We learn that Alma had closed herself off from the world sometime in the past and things only changed after she met Nata. She noticed that Nata was still captivated by the world and everything in it even though he had “lost everything he knew”. This trait inspired Alma to also “be out living life.”
Alma continues to state that Fabius wanted someone who could be trusted with Nata and she felt that the Hunter was the perfect choice because of their background. Now, she doesn’t reveal in this conversation what the Hunter’s backstory is, but we do know that is a seasoned professional who is known to be a bit of a loner before being assigned to the Forbidden Lands expedition.

Alma further mentions that the Hunter had already lived up to her expectations.
“You already have! When I first saw you leap onto that Seikret, my heart nearly burst from my chest. I felt so…alive! I knew I made the right choice.”
Throughout the main story quests, we repeatedly see Alma’s concerns for both the people around her and the monsters we encounter. She is aware of the role that the Guild plays in the ecosystem and is able to take the difficult call of authorizing the hunt of Arkveld.
MHWilds Alma: Services and Quests
Alma’s services in Monster Hunter Wilds are to authorize the Hunter’s quests and accompany the Hunter onto the field. You will also be able to interact with her to check out the available/completed quests, lobby information, and more.
Alma’s Quests include all Main Story Missions and What We Protect (side mission).
Where To Find Alma in MHWilds
Apart from accompanying the player on their hunts or expeditions in Monster Hunter Wilds, Alma can also be found in the region’s Base Camp and in any Pop-Up Camps.
