Here’s a complete walkthrough for the An Ominous Welcome mission in Chapter 7: The Hollow of Split Fiction.
An Ominous Welcome is the first mission of the seventh chapter in Split Fction. This chapter explores a deeper side of Zoe’s mindscape. Additionally, this chapter also introduces new spirit companions for both of the characters. Moreover, new mechanics and puzzles are also introduced that incorporate the usage of these new spirit companions.
The game gives a vague tutorial that can confuse players from understanding how to use the spirit companions properly. Therefore, this guide has explained every detail for the first mission, An Ominous Welcome, in The Hollow chapter of Split Fiction.
Introduction of Zoe’s Power: Spectral Fish
After the introduction cutscene, follow the path filled with wooden beams and broken platforms. Use the wooden beams and jump off the broken stone platforms while moving forward. A cutscene starts just before you reach the final platform, which introduces Zoe’s special power for this chapter: a spectral fish.
This spectral fish can merge with certain flat surfaces and manipulate golden objects or anything incorporating golden materials. The game gives a small introduction on which buttons you can use to hold and pull structures using the spectral fish. Use it on the pillar in front of you to bring it closer and jump on it.
Once both players are on, aim just below the platform in front of you. You can then pull the pillar back to its starting position this way. Move forward and use the spectral fish on the circular floor in front of the golden door. Do remember that you have to keep holding the merge/pull button; otherwise, the spectral fish lets go. Pull the golden door open, and both players can head forward to the next section.

Introduction of Mio’s Power: Spectral Owl
This section starts with a cutscene that introduces Mio’s companion: a spectral owl. You can use the spectral owl on special mechanisms and illuminate it to create solid surfaces made of light. Use the spectral owl on the mechanism in front of you and keep holding it to create a walkable light surface to the platform ahead. You can release the button once both players have crossed.
Walk ahead to find a similar mechanism. Illuminate it and walk forward, where you have to release the spectral owl and drop down to the stone platform. Do remember not to release it before, which results in players falling to their deaths. With the introduction of the powers now over, head forward to the last section of this chapter, where you have to utilize both powers together to progress forward.

Using Both the Powers
The puzzle in this section is an easy one. Jump on the golden chandelier and use the spectral fish on the right wall to pull the chandelier closer to the wall and let go. This swings the chandelier to the left side, where you have to jump off and ledge grab the left platform.
Head forward till you see a mechanism on the right side of the wall. Use the spectral fish to pull it down and then use the spectral owl to make a light surface to stand on. Jump on the surface and release the spectral fish so that the mechanism moves back upwards. Jump off the surface and keep going ahead. Hang on to the chains on the right side and move forward, jumping off each chain.
Drop down and use the spectral owl on the mechanism; keep holding it. Use the spectral fish on the square surfaces to move the mechanisms to the other side. There is one on the left side and one on the right side. After pulling the mechanism to the right, let go, and it automatically moves forward. Jump when close enough to the stone platform in front and ledge grab onto it.
Head forward to a large, closed stone door. Both players have to jump and hold onto the chains on each side of the door to open it. This opens up a room full of murals from Zoe’s life, which starts a cutscene marking the end of the An Ominous Welcome mission.
