Minecraft is a cult-classic life simulator that infuses supernatural elements to spice up the formula. Including the massive overworld, there’s a secret, hellish dimension called the Nether world where nothing but dangers await you.
However, exploring the Nether can come with a bit of a surprise, including rare items that you can use to craft strong armor and complete the story. Want to know how to enter the Nether? Here’s a detailed rundown on how to do it.
How To Make the Nether Portal in Minecraft
Before visiting the Nether in Minecraft, you must create a portal that will transport you to the other dimension. To do so, you will require 14 Obsidian blocks that can be attained by mixing lava into water. You can craft a bucket to carry lava from its source and pour it onto the water from above.
Once the lava mixes with water, it will turn into Obsidian. However, this purple block can only be broken down with a Diamond Pickaxe, so make sure you have it in your inventory before farming Obsidian.

After retrieving 14 Obsidian blocks, you can find an open area and place them vertically at a scale of 4×5—four blocks at the base horizontally and five at the base’s corners.
Now, with the Nether portal successfully designed, you need to complete one more process to bring it to life. For this, you will require Flint and Steel and use it to start a fire at a block. If done correctly, the Nether portal will be brimming with purple rays from where you can enter the dimension.
Before you start your adventure, it is recommended to stock up on food and armor since this dimension is unforgiving. The Nether has no sense of day and night, so if you try to sleep there, your bed will explode and blow you to smithereens.
