DOOM The Dark Ages explores the story of the DOOM Slayer, serving as the prequel to the critically acclaimed DOOM and DOOM Eternal. While Chapter 1 primarily functions as a tutorial, it also explores how humans are defending themselves from the demons while also revealing Prince Ahzrak’s motives.
Chapter 1, Village of Khalim, starts with the rampage of demons on Khalim, located on the planet of Argent D’Nur. While the Witch and Hell Priest are searching for the Heart of Argent, King Novik from Khalim calls upon Commander Thia from Sentinel Command to aid the village. Responding to her request, Kreed Maykr sends the DOOM Slayer to defend the village, marking the beginning of your mission. Village of Khalim Full Chapter Walkthrough in DOOM The Dark Ages
Learning the Basics and Getting to the Village
You begin at the outskirts of Khalim. Follow the quest marker to reach the village while learning the combat basics, such as blocking and charging. Also, you will go through the traversal basics like jumping, mantling, and climbing scramble walls. After learning about the Shield Charge mechanics, kill 15 Demons with Shield Charge to progress. You will also be able to break certain gates by performing the Environmental Shield Charge. After breaking the gate, you will eventually reach the Village.
Reaching the Point of No Return
Now the objective turns out to be to clear the village, so get prepared with your shotgun. In the village, you will find wounded Sentinel soldiers. Get past them through the broken building and reach the open area, where the Sentinel soldiers call for a weapon drop. Open the weapon drop to acquire the Power Gauntlet, which enhances your melee attacks with deadly combos.
After obtaining the Power Gauntlet, complete the tutorials by smashing enemies with the Gauntlet and performing three-hit combos on the stronger variant enemy. Completing the tasks opens the barrier, allowing you to progress. Continue the pathway by climbing the scramble walls, and you will reach the Point of No Return.
Finding the Blue Key
A large group of enemies will appear when you enter the open area. After clearing the area, your next task is to find the key to the main gate. Commander Thia will mention that the key can be found in a nearby church. Follow the quest marker to get to the church, where you will learn how to parry the projectiles.
After completing the task of parrying two Hell Surge projectiles, a new enemy type will appear, riding a creature. After defeating the enemy using Glory Strikes, climb the nearby wall to reach the church. While entering the church, King Novik will say the cultists are traitors, meaning you can actually take them out. Then, you will find the Blue key at the front of the statue.
Destroying the Demonic Portals
Once you find the key, get to the main gate. Here, you will learn about the Automap, which is used to spot the objective locations along with valuable items and secrets. Open the main gate, and you will encounter the hellgates, aka Demonic Portals. You need to find and destroy four Demonic Portals scattered across the village. Use the automap to spot their location and defeat the enemies in the area, which collapse and destroy the portals. You will also find a new automatic weapon called Shredder in one of the Demonic Portal areas.
Defeating the Titan
After closing the Hellgates, your objective is to defend the Beach. Follow the objective tracker to get to the spot, where you will also learn about the End of Chapter objective marker. Get to the turret and use it to clear the large wave of enemies. After clearing the whole group of mobs, your final objective is to eliminate the Titan.
Use the turret to fire shots at Titan, which recharges the Fire Bolt option. Using the Fire Bolt several times on the Titan eliminates it, and hence concludes the chapter. The end scene reveals that Prince Ahzrak and the Witch learns about DOOM Slayer, while also revealing their intentions to acquire the Heart of Argent. Chapter 1 will contain 6 secrets, 2 codex, 2 toys, and 1 weapon skin.
