Doom: The Dark Ages is easily one of the most highly anticipated releases of 2025, and rightfully so. Not only does the game have the massive baggage of living up to the standards set in place by its predecessors, but it also has to do so while delivering a fresh and unique experience. And judging from the early reviews of the game, The Dark Ages seems to be doing just that.
With the game’s release inching ever closer, we finally have details on Doom The Dark Ages’ pre-download schedule. In addition to that, the game’s total file size has also been revealed across all platforms. Surprisingly enough, the latest Doom title isn’t particularly hefty, at least in terms of storage requirements.
Furthermore, Bethesda Softworks has also revealed the game’s early access schedule for all platforms. Here’s everything you need to know about Doom The Dark Ages’ pre-load schedule, file size, and more.
When Can You Pre-Load Doom The Dark Ages?
Doom The Dark Ages is currently available to pre-load on all platforms. Pre-loads are available for Xbox Game Pass users as well. That said, do note that the Game Pass version is only available to players who are subscribed to Game Pass Ultimate. However, if you’re on PC, you can get access to Doom The Dark Ages with the regular Game Pass subscription.
Surprisingly enough, the game’s file size varies greatly across consoles and PC. The PC version comes in at roughly 69 GB. However, on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, The Dark Ages comes with a file size of 84 GB. Additionally, if you want to download the Premium Edition extras, that’ll require 15 GB more.
It should be noted that pre-load is available to both Standard and Premium Edition owners of the game. However, early access is only available for players who pre-purchased the Premium Edition.
How To Get Early Access to Doom The Dark Ages?
Doom The Dark Ages is scheduled to be released on May 15, 2025. However, if you pre-order the Premium Edition, you can start playing from May 13, 2025. You can get more information on the early access timings here. Early access is available across all platforms where the game is available, i.e., PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. Do note that both PC and console versions of the game follow the same timing for their early access release.
Doom The Dark Ages System Requirements
Before you preload Doom The Dark Ages on your PC, make sure to go through the official system requirements. As the very first id Tech 8 game, The Dark Ages comes with pretty hefty PC system specifications. Here are the minimum and recommended system requirements for the latest Doom game:

- OS: Windows 10 64-Bit / Windows 11 64-Bit
- Processor: AMD Zen 2 or Intel 10th Generation CPU @3.2Ghz with 8 cores / 16 threads or better (examples: AMD Ryzen 7 3700X or better, or Intel Core i7 10700K or better)
- Memory: 16 GB RAM
- Graphics: NVIDIA or AMD hardware ray tracing-capable GPU with 8GB dedicated VRAM or better (examples: NVIDIA RTX 2060 SUPER or better, AMD RX 6600 or better)
- Storage: 100 GB available space
