Best Shield Saw Upgrades in Doom The Dark Ages
To unleash the true potential of the Shield Saw in Doom The Dark Ages, you must first unlock Shield Runes in Chapter 9 of the game. This will truly let you unleash the maximum potential of this weapon. That said, the best Shield Saw upgrades can be divided into two sections:
- Shield Saw Base Upgrades
- Shield Saw Rune Attack Upgrades
Here is how you should proceed with both in order to get the best performance from this weapon:
Best Shield Saw Base Upgrades in Doom The Dark Ages
Simply put, you need to unlock all six of the base Shield Saw Upgrades in Doom The Dark Ages:
- Retaliation: If you parry a hellsurge attack, it creates a large shockwave that causes nearby demons to heavily falter.
- Power Surge: Throwing your shield at an enemy’s Energy Shield causes it to bounce and hit nearby enemies.
- Extended Range: Extends the range of your Shield Saw throw.
- Steadfast: The shield recovers faster after taking damage or breaking.
- Harvester: Killing multiple fodder (or small demons) with Shield Throw will empower it, and your next Shield Charge will deal additional damage.
- Blade Master: Non-fodder enemies that are hit by your Shield Saw remain stunned for a longer duration.
Best Shield Saw Rune Attack Upgrades in Doom The Dark Ages
You unlock Shield Runes at the Ancestral Forge (Chapter 9) of the game, and the first attack you get by default is called the Ground Fissure. This is by no means the best Shield Rune attack in Doom The Dark Ages, and is quite underwhelming for the most part. As such, do not bother spending your Gold to unlock any upgrades in this Shield Rune lineup.
The best Shield Rune upgrade for your Shield Saw is the Heaven Splitter, which you unlock in Chapter 14, Spire of Nerathul, in Doom The Dark Ages. Once unlocked, you can proceed to immediately upgrade this line from a Sentinel Shrine:
- Heaven Splitter: No cost; parrying Hellsurge projectiles calls down lightning on impact with enemies and stuns nearby demons.
- Induction: 100 Gold upgrade cost; greatly increases the Stun Duration of Heaven Splitter.
- Mega Burst: 175 Gold upgrade cost; greatly increases the Stun Area of the Heaven Splitter.
- Gigawatt: 300 Gold upgrade cost; demons affected by Heaven Splitter automatically take shock damage.
Pair these Shield Saw upgrades with a maximum upgraded Plasma Cycler to have a monstrous “Shock” build, one that can easily stun even the toughest of enemies to give you an advantage in fights.
