Your last dance in Doom The Dark Ages will be a two-fold fight against Ahzrak and the Witch. Technically, this will be the second time you deliver a sound beating to this demon prince. This boss fight is easier than some of the others, and a simple target priority along with parrying will allow you to beat them easily.
Ahzrak and the Witch have different attack sets in Doom The Dark Ages, and the latter is considerably weak. Once you understand the combos and patterns of both these bosses, defeating them becomes a walk in the park. Doom The Dark Ages Ahzrak and Witch Boss Guide: Overview
As mentioned earlier, the boss fight with Ahzrak and Witch is a two-fold fight in Doom The Dark Ages. The overall fight can be divided into two phases, where Prince Ahzrak remains constant. In the first phase, you fight both the Witch and Ahzrak; however, you primarily end up defeating and killing the Witch. After a very short cutscene, you get to fight Ahzrak in full health all over again, which is the second phase of this fight. In this phase, Ahzrak uses some new attacks that you would not have encountered in the previous stage.
The basic idea of this boss fight is to focus on the enemy who does not have an energy shield in the first phase and prioritize dealing as much damage to it as possible. And in the second phase, it comes down to how well you can parry Ahzrak’s attacks in Doom The Dark Ages. In both phases, increasing the Stun Meter becomes your most important goal, as you can then execute the glory kill-like finishers that will deal a lot of damage. Repeat this entire process for a few cycles, and both phases should end without a jiffy.
Ahzrak and Witch’s Attacks in Doom The Dark Ages

Phase 1: Ahzrak and Witch
In this phase, Ahzrak and the Witch have a collective health pool. Damaging either one depletes the overall health, and they have the following attacks in their arsenal:
- Energy Shield: Either Ahzrak or Witch will have an energy shield around them. Simply select the target that does not have a shield and keep hitting it. This shield will also switch from time to time, and you need to switch your targets accordingly as well.
- Dash-melee Combo: Ahzrak will dash in with his spear and hit you one more time. All of these attacks are Hell Surge imbued and can be parried.
- Curving Blade: This attack is a normal projectile that you cannot block. Your only option is to dodge it. Moreover, blocking it with the shield will deal additional damage to both you and your shield saw.
- Triple Melee: Ahzrak will use his spear to deal three melee strikes. You can parry each strike here to stun the boss.
- Shield Energy Balls: The Witch can summon multiple energy balls. These energy balls originate from the shield and radially spread out in all directions.
- Hell Surge Projectiles: The Witch’s most common attack includes normal Hell Surge projectiles that are very fast. You can also parry these back using the Shield Runes.
- Energy Balls: The Witch can summon Energy Balls at her location and fire them towards the Slayer.
- Energy Blast: The Witch can create a small energy blast at your location, which will deal a substantial amount of damage if it hits you.
- Cannonball Projectile: Ahzrak can summon multiple fiery Cannonballs, which he will then hurl towards you. This is immediately followed by a radial cannonball attack originating from Ahzrak’s position that is nearly impossible to dodge but can be blocked. These cannot be parried.
Phase 2: Ahzrak
In Phase 2 of his boss fight in Doom The Dark Ages, you only fight Ahzrak. This boss now has some more attacks, some of which are very deadly. Here are all the attacks that Prince Ahzrak uses in the second phase of this boss fight in Doom The Dark Ages:
- Jump Strike: Ahzrak will jump with his spear held high and strike you. This attack is Hell Surge imbued and can be parried or blocked.
- Dash-melee: The dash-melee combo from the previous phase 1 stays the same.
- Triple-melee Strike: Ahzrak will use his spear to strike you thrice. All these attacks are also green in color, and you can parry these back.
- Energy Shield and Cannonball: Ahzrak will summon an energy shield and will then start firing cannonballs in your direction. This will then be followed up by a radial cannonball attack, similar to the one in Phase 1 of this boss fight.
- Spear Ground Strike: This is one of the more deadly attacks that Ahzrak gains in Phase 2. He will strike his spear onto the ground, which will create a hell surge shockwave. After a very brief delay, the shockwave will return to the spear and deal damage to you in doing so. Both of these attacks can be parried and blocked, but you need to get the timing right. The return shockwave, in particular, does a lot of damage.
- Curving Blade: Similar to Phase 1, this is a projectile attack from Ahzrak that you cannot block and must dodge.
How To Defeat Ahzrak and Witch in Doom The Dark Ages
To defeat Ahzrak and Witch in Doom The Dark Ages, you will have to be an expert in dodging, parrying, and predicting the opponents’ attacks. As you keep parrying attacks, both the bosses will be stunned, and you will be able to execute your glory kill finishers on them. Repeat this process a few times, and you should be able to beat them easily. Since Ahzrak is a heavy-hitting boss, you also need to be mindful of your health.
Here is the basic gameplay loop that you should look to achieve in order to easily defeat Ahzrak and Witch in Doom The Dark Ages:
- Make sure to have weapons that perform well in close range, because you will have to rely on very close-rang skirmishes for the entirety of this boss fight.
- Use your Shield Bash to always stay in close range of the demons. Both Ahzrak and the Witch like to teleport across the arena and use their long-range attacks, which are very heavy-hitting. Stay up close to prevent them from using these.
- During the first phase, attack the boss who does not have a shield. Do not waste time shooting the shield.
- Parry all Hell Surge (green-colored attacks) and build up the Stun Meter.
- Once you stun the boss and see the purple outline, use your finisher move to quickly progress the fight.
- Do not use weapons that deal damage to you as well (like the Grenade Launcher, for example.) These can also knock you out if you have taken damage from the bosses.
- Close-range weapons like the Super Shotgun or Skullcrusher Pulverizer are the best picks for this fight.
- Familiarize yourself with the locations of the Health packs in the fighting arena. Since the bosses are heavy-hitting, you will need to pick these up and heal yourself when you are low on health.
- Try to predict your opponent’s moves by looking at the animation. Each attack has a unique sequence that you can easily understand.
Best Weapons and Skills To Defeat Ahzrak and Witch in Doom The Dark Ages
You should equip the hardest-hitting short-rang weapons to defeat Ahzrak and Witch in Doom The Dark Ages. Since your goal is to always be close to the bosses, long-range weapons are suboptimal for this. Here are the best weapons that you should use:
- Super Shotgun: All skills upgraded.
- Skullcrusher Pulverizer: All skills upgraded.
- Melee: Dreadmace.
- Shield Rune: Heaven Splitter.
Both the Super Shotgun and the Skullcrusher Pulverizer work extremely well for close-range fights. You will easily be able to deal a lot of damage with these to both the bosses. Moreover, the Dreadmace is a wild card that can often clutch a particular moment for you.
