Finding the real Pizza Chef in Death Stranding 2 can be a little tricky affair. It is not part of the main storyline, meaning that unless you are exploring the game beyond it, you will lose out on this interesting encounter. But, the end result is well worth it – a delightful cutscene, opening of the pizzeria, and a new combat technique. This guide will outline everything you need to know to find out the truth about the Pizza Chef.

Death Stranding 2 Pizza Chef Truth Explained

There are two requirements before you can discover the truth and find the Pizza Chef in Death Stranding 2.

  • Get close to Level 2 connection Level with Pizza Chef – In my playthrough, the connection level will pause around 50% or so before Lv. 2.
  • Get the Pizza Chef’s Misanga Lost Cargo – I found this in the MULE camp outside the Motherhood near the river while doing the mission that unlocks the Coffin Board. The lost cargo was in the main large tent on one of the shelves (as shown in the picture below). As far as I can tell, it may appear in other MULE camps as well.

Once you have the Pizza Chef’s Misanga Lost Cargo, head to the Pizza Chef location to deliver it.

What Happens When You Deliver the Pizza Chef’s Misanga in Death Stranding 2?

Once the delivery is complete, the door behind the terminal will unlock. You can make your way inside the base till you come across a large room where weapons are being fabricated (similar to the ghost mech factory you encounter in Episode 7). You will have to defeat two ghost mechs and should be able to make short work of them.

Once you have defeated them, move to the door at the end of the room and interact to Open the door to meet the real Pizza Chef in Death Stranding 2. There’s an interesting cutscene that follows which involves the Pizza Chef and Sam engaging in hand-to-hand combat and finally ending with cooking pizzas. Post the fight, a large sign saying “Mamoru’s Pizza Atami: Delivery Only – Now Open” appears outside the Pizza Chef’s base.

Back at the delivery terminal outside, the Pizza Chef explains that he didn’t notice “those fiends” breaking in as he was busy rebuilding the roads. They then imprisoned him and used an imposter to run the business. The pizza deliveries were used to smuggle weapons, with the Pizza Chef being an “unwilling accomplice”. Completing this cutscene finishes the mission Free the Trapped Pizza Chef.

For rescuing him and reaching Connection Lv. 2, the Pizza Chef awards Sam the Rubber Pizza schematics. It is a rubber disc that you can throw as a weapon. The Rubber Pizza is able to knock out even the most heavily armored humans if you can manage a headshot. It can be stored in a grenade pouch once you have fabricated it.

Using it will have you hold L2 to aim and then R2 to throw (holding R2 and releasing adds a long throw). While you are aiming, Sam spins the Rubber Pizza on his finger trip like a pizza chef. The weapon, once thrown, has a projectile arc like any other grenade.

How To Get And Use Great Spinning Pizza Strike in Death Stranding 2

After rescuing the Pizza Chef and reaching Connection Lv. 2, he gives Sam a scroll detailing the Great Spinning Pizza Strike. To do it, you need to hold R2 (to center your balance) and then hold Circle (to build up strength). Once you release the Circle button, Sam will spin forward for a short distance (you can change direction mid-animation with the Left Joystick).

The move is able to break an enemy’s block and inflict damage. The white flour that you will see when you perform the attack is also highly explosive. Both the Great Spinning Pizza Strike and the Rubber Pizza can be a part of stealth loadout in Death Stranding 2 along with weapons like Tranq Sniper Rifle and SL Tranq Handgun.
