Wuchang Fallen Feathers offers you dozens of weapons to pick from, and while the weapon roster is impressive, they all fall into certain archetypes. The axe weapon archetype is for those who prefer a strength build in other Soulslikes.

In the axe build, you hit slow but like a truck, eating away at chunks of the enemy’s HP with each hit. With the right axe build, you can improve your mobility and amplify your damage further, making you an absolute menace to even the game’s hardest enemies.

If you’re someone who loves playing strength builds in Soulslikes and can’t figure out an axe build in Wuchang Fallen Feathers, our guide is here to help. In this guide, we shall go over the best axe build in the game. We shall recommend weapons, armor, items, skills, and a ton more, all of which will serve to make you as strong as possible.

Building the best axe build begins with picking the right axe, and Wuchang Fallen Feathers gives you quite a few to pick from. The four axes we recommend are the Vermilion War Club, Scorn Greataxe, Halberd, and Empyrean Greataxe.

Vermilion War Club:

Damage TypeValue
Slash65
Blunt90
Stab57

These stats are made all the more impressive with the weapon’s strength scaling. The Vermilion War Club has a Level III scaling, making it one of the best strength weapons to carry you through the game. Furthermore, the weapon’s Misty Breath skill allows you to Poise Break enemies. This allows you to land critical hits and deal extra damage, finishing off enemies quickly. Take note that this weapon is exclusive to Deluxe Edition pre-orders.

Halberd:

Damage TypeValue
Slash79
Blunt95
Stab62

If you don’t have the Vermilion War Club, the Halberd is your next best choice and boasts equally impressive damage stats. The weapon also comes with a Level II scaling for strength, offering great ROI on points invested in strength. The Halberd also comes with the Mighty Blow skill, which sees you leaping into the air and crashing down on enemies. This skill is surprisingly mobile for an axe, and can often help turn the tide of battle.

Empyrean Greataxe:

Damage TypeValue
Slash86
Blunt122
Stab61

The Empyrean Greataxe does everything the Halberd does but better. It comes with better stats and has a higher strength scaling of Level III. It also has a fairly agile weapon skill that rivals that of the Halberd. The weapon you pick boils down to personal preference, but if it is only damage you’re concerned with, then this is the one you should use.

Scorn Greataxe:

Damage TypeValue
Slash99
Blunt99
Stab59

The Scorn Greataxe’s stats may pale in comparison to the Empyrean Greataxe, but it comes with an absurd Level V scaling for strength. This weapon may not reap rewards early on, but as you invest more points into strength, you’ll quickly start noticing a massive leap in damage. The weapon skill, too, is pretty mobile, but it also engulfs the weapon in flames to deal extra damage.

Best Axe Build: Armor

Armor is just as important (Image via 505 Games)

We recommend using the following pieces of armor for the axe build:

  • North General’s Helmet
  • Centipede Carapace
  • North General’s Vambraces
  • Ming Greaves

You’ll be able to acquire all of these pieces relatively early on, and all of these individual pieces have impressive defensive stats. Furthermore, this combination of pieces will also safeguard you from status afflictions. This is especially useful later on when Corruption, Despair, and Blight become a big issue.

Best Skills for Axe Build in Wuchang Fallen Feathers

Having the right weapons and armor is only half the equation. To make the most of your build, you need the right skills, so we’ve listed them down for you:

  • Colossal Smash
  • Colossal Smash Variant I
  • Colossal Smash Variant II
  • Manna Potency
  • Manna Capacity

The Colossal Smash and its variants are some of the strongest Disciplines for the axe weapons in the game. They allow you to raise the axe and smash it straight into the ground for a large chunk of damage. Its variants also create burning morasses, further boosting your damage potential.

Apart from the weapon skills, it is also important to invest in Manna Potency and Capacity. As you move into the mid-to-late game, you’ll find bosses that hit like a truck. You’ll need all the heals you can get at that point.

It also goes without saying that you must invest points into strength in the skill tree. Your weapons scale with strength, so stack up as many strength points as you can. Apart from strength, you must also invest points into vitality and endurance. Endurance, especially, is very important because wielding axes drains a lot of stamina. You want to be able to do combos without running out of breath.

Items To Carry for the Best Axe Build

Some items have over-time healing effects in Wuchang Fallen Feathers.
Carry the right items (Source: 505 Games)

While the items won’t contribute much to your overall build, they’re still necessary to ensure your safety. We recommend bringing the following items:

  • Manna Vase
  • Temperance
  • Steamed Bunny Bun
  • Fire Pot
  • Cornucopia Elixir

The Manna Vase is your healing flask, so this is one item you cannot afford to skip out on. Apart from the vase, you can also bring in Steamed Bunny Bun as a backup healing item. This item heals in small chunks and very slowly, so only use it in worst-case scenarios. We also suggest bringing in the Cornucopia Elixir, or a similar status-effect-related item, to deal with Corruption, Blight, and other status effects.

Aside from healing items, we also recommend bringing in a throwable such as a Fire Pot or Niter Fire Pot. Throwables in this game are OP, and the fire pots are among the best. We recommend using them if both you and the boss are at low HP and it is risky to fight up close. They are going to be your primary healing sources.

Lastly, we recommend bringing in Temperance to imbue your blade with Fire damage. This will increase your overall damage output and will also inflict the Burn ailment.

Jade Pendant and Benediction

Capping off our build are a few Jade Pendants and Benedictions. Pendants such as the Dragon-Fish Pendant and the Twin Infant Pendant help improve your stamina management, while the Coiled-Fish Pendant helps increase the damage of your weapon skills. If you wish to increase the potency of your physical attacks, we recommend swapping out any of the aforementioned pendants for the Tiger Pendant.

As far as Benedictions go, the Wei – Vitality Force and the Wei – Combo Force are the ones you should pick. Vitality Force increases damage dealt at full HP, and the Combo Force increases damage with each successive attack.
