Everything you need to know about the Inner Demon system in Wuchang Fallen Feathers, and how it affects gameplay.

Much like other traditional souls-like games, Wuchang Fallen Feathers has a vast array of gameplay systems that complement the game’s progression and combat. Similar to Demon’s Souls’ World Tendency or Sekiro’s Dragonrot, Wuchang also has a similar mechanic that affects the moment-to-moment gameplay. The aptly named Inner Demon system is essentially a passive mechanic that comes into effect when you kill or get into combat against other humanoid enemies in the game. The mechanic is woven within the game’s lore as well as the Madness system.
However, Wuchang doesn’t do a great job at explaining how Inner Demon works, which is par for the course for most souls-like games. To help with that, here’s everything you need to know about the Inner Demon system in Wuchang Fallen Feathers.
What Is the Inner Demon System in Wuchang Fallen Feathers?

The Inner Demon system is tied to your Madness level. As you progress through the game and defeat bosses, your Madness will increase gradually. Madness is a passive trait that you cannot quell using consumables. Once your Madness is maxed out, either due to killing bosses or humanoid enemies, the Inner Demon is activated. At this point, if you die during regular exploration, your Red Mercury will get consumed by a specter. This specter is hostile towards both your enemies and Wuchang. To get the Red Mercury back, you will need to defeat the Inner Demon.
Additionally, in some parts of the overworld, the Inner Demon can be summoned simply by having your Madness bar partially filled. The Inner Demon is a reflection of Wuchang, and a rather challenging mini-boss. Think of it like the Revenants in The First Berserker Khazan. While the Inner Demon is a challenging enemy to fight, it’s also a good source of Red Mercury.
Furthermore, Inner Demon can be used to help you fight or trim down the enemy hordes in later parts of the game. If you can manage to lure the Inner Demon to an enemy territory, it will attack said enemies, making it easier for you to go through the level. However, do note that once the enemies are dead, the Inner Demon will attack you. As such, be prepared to fight the Inner Demon, as long as it’s within the vicinity.
How To Easily Defeat the Inner Demon in Wuchang Fallen Feathers
Since the Inner Demon is a reflection of Wuchang herself, it’s mostly weak to every elemental affliction. Furthermore, the Demon is also prone to backstabbing, which is one of the easiest ways to defeat the mini-boss. Other than that, Spells can help make short work of the Inner Demon. If you’re having trouble, you can try to quell your Madness at the Shu Sanctuary. Do note that you will need certain key items (obtained by defeating bosses) to reset your Madness levels.
