In this guide, we’ll learn all about the mechanics of the cartel ambush in Schedule 1, including what they are and how to survive them.

A Cartel ambush in Schedule 1 is a new feature that came into effect with the Cartel update for the game. While these ambushes can help you slowly drain the rival cartel’s influence from the streets of Hyland Point, you’ll need to prepare yourself to tackle them beforehand. The game has predetermined locations where such ambushes take place, and you’ll need to be aware of these as well. So, in the following guide, we’ll explore everything you should know about Cartel ambushes in the game.
How Does a Cartel Ambush in Schedule 1 Work?
Cartel ambushes can occur in one of two ways.
- An ambush might trigger just after you complete a drug deal.
- The ambush could start when you walk into one of the predetermined ambush zones or locations on the map.
In both these cases, opposing cartel members will appear and start attacking you on sight. If you manage to survive an ambush and eliminate all attacking members, you will lower the cartel’s influence in that area by 75. As you might already know, you’ll need to lower cartel influence in a zone significantly before you can progress into the subsequent zone. So, winning cartel ambushes is one of the fastest ways of draining influence and making progress.

All Cartel Ambush Locations in Schedule 1

All of the Cartel ambush locations are predetermined. So, if you know where these spots are, you can intentionally trigger ambushes. This is the easiest way to lower cartel influence, since you can repeat ambushes in each of the many ambush spots. So, after winning such an ambush, you can retreat from the spot for some time. Return to that same spot after some time to trigger another cartel ambush. The map above showcases all of the known cartel ambush spots around the city.
In most cases, you can expect the ambushes to occur in side alleys or along certain chokepoints. So, very rarely will they happen in the middle of open streets. For instance, in the Suburbia region, you can expect most ambushes to happen near Jane’s trailer. In Westville, these ambushes usually take place close to Dean’s Tattoo Shop.
How To Survive Ambushes

The following tips should help you survive during most ambushes.
- Make sure you have a proper weapon with you at all times when making deals or forcing an ambush. Without a weapon, preferably a gun, you won’t last long against the cartel members.
- Make sure you force ambushes in chokepoint areas, where you can easily line up the members. This will help you take them out one by one without getting overwhelmed.
- Lastly, if you’re already low on health, don’t force an ambush. Instead, recover your HP first and then return to the ambush spot.
Keep in mind that other activities, such as killing cartel dealers and spray painting spots, can also lower cartel influence. So, make sure you use those opportunities if you feel you aren’t ready for full-blown cartel ambush fights.
