In this guide, we’ll explore more about the Shadow Spiller in Hades 2, including what its movesets are and some additional battle tips.

Shadow Spiller in Hades 2 is one of the many mini-bosses you’ll encounter as Melinoe makes her way toward her ultimate target, The Titan of Time, Chronos. Even though the mini-boss encounters aren’t as complex as the standard bosses you’ll fight, they can nonetheless prove to be a considerable challenge.
For instance, the Shadow Spiller encounter is tricky because this enemy will obscure your vision throughout the battle. So, knowing exactly how to proceed is crucial, or your run just might end here. So, without further ado, let’s get right into where you can find the Shadow Spiller and how you can defeat it.
Where To Find the Shadow Spiller in Hades 2
You will find the Shadow Spiller mini-boss while making your way through Erebus. This is the same area where you also go up against one of the other guardians, named Root-Stalker. Since this is an early game area, the Shadow Spiller boss fight is one of the first you’ll encounter in the game as a first-time player.
Shadow Spiller’s Moveset

As you enter the arena, the area will become darkened. Only a small portion in the middle of the screen will still have light. This is where the boss will be. The Shadow Spiller always has armor on top of its standard health bar. Two other enemies, dubbed Thorn-Weepers, will also spawn, but they will be in the shadows. So, you might not see them before they attack. Here are the attack types you can expect during this intense battle:
- Thorn-Weeper vine attacks: From time to time, the two Thorn-Weepers will attack you with their vines from within the shadows. The vines will crawl toward you in a straight line from their location. Although you can’t see these enemies due to the shadow, you can follow these vines back to the source and strike at them.
- Tail swipe: The Shadow Spiller will slash at you with its tail, dealing heavy damage if the attack connects. It takes place in an arc, so you’ll have to avoid the entire arc area if you want to prevent the attack from landing on Melinoe.
- Tail slam: As the name might suggest, this is an attack type where Shadow Spiller will slam its tail down where you are standing. This attack also deals significant damage in a circular area if you aren’t careful.
How To Defeat Shadow Spiller in Hades 2

The following are some of the tips you can use to get through the battle easily.
- Always deal with the two Thorn-Weepers before focusing on Shadow Spiller. If you don’t know where these enemies are, simply wait for them to unleash their vine attacks. Then, follow the direction from which the vines crept out toward Melinoe.
- Shadow Spiller’s moves deal extreme damage but are slow. So, you can easily spot them coming and take evasive maneuvers to get out of the way. We suggest staying behind the mini-boss, as it will always use its Tail Slam attack toward the direction where it’s facing.
- Use Cast during the encounter to get a bigger window of opportunity to evade the Shadow Spiller’s attacks and strike back. For instance, if your Cast has a Demeter Boon, the enemy will freeze for a while. You can not only avoid its attacks this way but also get enough time to deal additional damage.
- If you want to deal damage over time, you can also equip Hestia Boons on your Cast. After that, using the Cast will inflict Scorch on the mini-boss. This will slowly drain away chunks of its HP over time.
