Salamence is a Dragon/Flying Pokemon first introduced in Generation III. Alongside its fellow Generation III pseudo-Legendary Metagross, Salamence has dominated the competitive meta. Then it got a Mega Evolution in Generation VI, which made it even more of a threat. So, let’s see how Salamence performs in the Legends Z-A meta.

These are the moves you want to use on your Salamence if you plan on using it in battle.

  • Outrage
  • Earthquake
  • Roar
  • Protect

Mega Salamence not having its Ability Aerilate in Legends Z-A means that it loses out on its powerful Flying-type STAB. However, it is still a Mega Salamence and remains a threat that should not be overlooked.

Outrage is the strongest physical Dragon STAB that Salamence learns, coming at level 50. Earthquake is useful for the Steel-types that resist Salamence’s Dragon STAB. Teach it the move with TM069, which Mable gives you for reaching level 34 of her research ladder. Roar is useful for pushing opponents away, causing them to miss their attacks. Teach this move with TM005, which you can find in Rouge Sector 1. Finally, Salamence learns Protect by leveling up to avoid enemy attacks.
