Baldur’s Gate 3’s already incredibly robust Character Creator gets an overhaul and additional new features for the PC launch!
Baldur’s Gate 3 Character Creator Overhaul
Baldur’s Gate 3 Revamps Character Creation with Customization and Massive Options! One of the first things that the developers at Larian Stuios showcased in their recent Livestream was the revamped Character Creator. Partially due to all of the choices players have (multiple races and sub-races, multiple classes and sub-classes), the developers wanted to make sure that it wasn’t overwhelming for new players. Especially for those unfamiliar with Dungeons & Dragons or previous Larian Studios games, they could more easily follow the tabs in the Character Creator in a step-by-step fashion.
Additional Appearance Changes
- Maturity added, Freckles Quantity/Intensity, Vitiligo Pigmentation
- Horn customization for Tieflings (Horn color and tip color)
- Scaring options
- Greater amount of hair options
- Additional Hair Colors
- Facial Hair options
- Body Type
- Piercings
- Attachments to head for Dragonborn
Classes and Sub-Classes at Launch
In exciting news, the developers also announced that a new class, Monk (along with three accompanying sub-classes) will be available when the game releases.
This brings the total number of classes to 12. Additionally, they are going to release a new sub-class for each and every class currently in the game. This will bring the number of sub-classes to a total of 46! Every class will have at least 3 available sub-classes. Certain classes such as the Wizard and Cleric have many more options.
Races and Sub-Races at Launch
Additionally, there are two new races coming to Baldur’s Gate 3 at launch. Half-Orcs (no available sub-classes). They have more of a stocky, heavier build than humans and as such have bonus Ability Scores of Strength +2 and Constitution +1.
Their emotions run strong and it is highly likely that they would make powerful Fighters or Barbarians.
The Dragonborn, a race that has been highly anticipated by players for a long time, has a whopping 10 sub-races. These include: Black, Blue, Brass, Bronze, Copper, Gold, Green, Red, Silver, and White.
All Dragonborn have the ability to use their Breath as a weapon. The type of damage done depends on their sub-race. Red Dragonborn would do fire damage, Green would deal poison, Bronze lightning, Black, acid, Silver cold, etc.
Baldur’s Gate 3 Revamps Character Creation with Customization
During the Panel from Hell Livestream, the developers shared lots of additional bits of information, as well. The time spent in Early Access has clearly been taken seriously by Larian Studios and it is exciting to see these improvements being made to the game before the release in less than a month from now.
- Players will be able to respec their characters through an NPC
- No information yet on who this NPC is or what it might cost
- This also opens up the ability for players to experiment with multiclassing
- In total there are over 600 spells and actions available to players across 12 classes and 46 sub-classes
- Druid characters can speak to EVERY animal in the game, and will have access to conversations and even quests that no other class can access
- The world and NPC characters in it will react to different races in different ways throughout the entirety of the game. This means if you roll a new character you may have a drastically different experience of the game the second time through
- If you wish to play the game as one of your companions rather than a custom character, you may do that through Origin Story. Currently Astarion, Lae’zel, Gale, Shadowheart, Wyll, Karlach are available.
- Dark Urge is another available Origin Story which will allow you to create a custom character which experiences very evil urges.
