The High Dragons in Dragon Age: The Veilguard are mystical creatures rumoured to have vanished a long time ago.

The Dragon Age series wears its high fantasy influences on its sleeves, and nowhere is this more apparent than with dragons. Dragons have been a part of Thedas and have shaped and influenced this magical world for centuries. The High Dragons are the rarest of this breed of mystical creatures that have seemingly vanished from the world. The creatures have either been relegated to a mere myth or promoted to godhood, depending on who in Thedas you ask. In Dragon Age: The Veilguard, however, these dragons are a myth no more and exist in flesh and blood. The game features seven High Dragons, each with their own unique look, powers, and personality.

In this guide, we shall go over the High Dragons in Dragon Age: The Veilguard and where you can find them.

1) Corius The Icetalon

Corius The Icetalon may be the first dragon you stumble upon in Dragon Age: The Veilguard if you choose to save Treviso earlier in the game. Ghilan’nain deploys the creature, and soaring through the sky, the dragon lands before you, looking to claim the Dread Wolf’s dagger. The ice-wielding creature is absolutely unforgiving with its constant barrages of ice bombs. You will also face this dragon alongside Seartooth Vyrantis in the Fire and Ice quest later.

2) Seartooth Vyrantis

Seartooth Vyrantis is a classic fire-breathing dragon that you will face if you choose to save Minrathous. Lava and flame burst out of the dragon’s scales as it looks to melt you down. The creature is mechanically similar to its ice counterpart. You face Seartooth Vyrantis and Corius the Icetalon as a duo during the Fire and Ice quest later in the game.

3) The Fangscorcher

The Fangscorcher is one of the dragons Taash is after and sends you on a hunt after the dragon. The dragon is found as part of Taash’s quest, ‘Slaying the Fangscorcher.’ Much like Seartooth Vyrantis, the Fangscorcher is a fire-breathing menace but is far more aggressive than its predecessors. The dragon routinely closes in the distance to smash you with its head and regularly tries to melt you down.

4) Kataranda The Stormrider

Kataranda The Stormrider is found on the Rivain Coast as part of the ‘Kataranda The Stormrider’ quest. Unlike the dragon before, Kataranda wields lightning and displays high intelligence by using the shore water to create pockets of lightning death traps. The dragon tests your maneuverability and situational awareness more so than other bosses in the game.

5) Kaltenzahn

Kaltenzahn is the second ice dragon in the game and can be found hidden away in the Sharkmouth caves. You find the dragon as part of Taash’s quest, ‘Lair of the Dragon King.’ The dragon is mechanically similar to Corius but hits much harder and poses a greater threat.

6) The Formless One

The Formless One is an undead lightning dragon, found in the ‘Pinnacle of its Kind’ quest in the Necropolis Halls. The dragon is sealed before the events of the quest undo it, and very quickly, you realize why the creature was sealed away in the first place. The dragon jolts you around the arena with lightning bolts and summons the undead to its aid, further adding on to the challenge.

7) Mythal’s Retribution

Mythal’s Retribution is the final dragon you meet in Dragon Age: The Veilguard. The dragon is Mythal herself and deals her retribution in the form of lightning bolts. The dragon can be found as part of the ‘Regrets of the Dread Wolf’ quest in the Nest of the Ancients.
