Should you knock out The First Warden or reason with him in the Dragon Age: The Veilguard? This guide analyzes the outcomes of both and gives you a clear idea.
Dragon Age: The Veilguard, the action RPG game, provides a lot of choices for the players to experience the storyline with different scenarios. Every choice you make has significant consequences, ranging from getting approval or disapproval from the companions to losing a faction or even a companion.
When you enter the War Room and meet the First Warden during ‘The Siege of Weisshaupt’ quest, you will be prompted with two options: Knock out the First Warden (or) Reason with him. The First Warden is a senior Grey Warden who hinders the quest by not listening to the Rook. You need to either hit him with a punch to clear his head or try to talk things through. Which option should you choose? Should you knock out the First Warden or reason with him in the Dragon Age: The Veilguard? Let’s discuss the outcome of both options and pick the one that works for you.
Knock Out or Reason With the First Warden: Which One Should You Choose?
This decision impacts and reflects only within this specific quest and doesn’t have a huge impact on the later storyline. However, it affects your companion’s perspective of you; some may approve and some may disapprove of your actions.
What Happens if You Knock Out the First Warden?
If you choose to knock out the First Warden, Rook punches him and takes control of the situation with Evka’s help. This action was greatly approved by Lucanis, Davrin, Taash, Harding, and Neve and greatly disapproved by Bellara and Emmrich.
The First Warden will appear towards the end of the quest during the battle and sacrifice himself to defeat the Archdemon.
During Davrin’s companion quest ‘The Profane and the Lost’, The First Warden appears one more time. Infected by the Blight and completely losing his mind, he’s seen ordering people with no one around, believing that he’s still at Weisshaupt.
What Happens if You Reason With the First Warden?
If you choose to reason with the First Warden, Rook convinces him. The First Warden accepts your advice and works along with your plan. This action was greatly approved by Bellara, Emmrich, and Harding. On the other hand, it was greatly disapproved by Lucanis, Davrin, Taash, and Neve. Similar to the first choice, he appears at the end of the quest and helps defeat the Archdemon.
Also similar to the first scenario, he will appear again at Davrin’s ‘The Profane and the Lost’ quest. Although affected by the Blight, he’s completely aware of himself this time and gives you some intel about defeating the Gloom Howler. He also orders Davrin to kill him, which prevents him from converting, and he dies with dignity in the hands of Davrin.
Which One Should You Choose?
Considering the two outcomes mentioned above, you can choose the one you prefer.
If you aim to romance Bellara or Emmrich or want to increase your bond with them, then you should choose to reason with the First Warden. This also gives the First Warden a better ending with dignity.
If you want to gain approval from the majority of the party members and don’t care about the First Warden’s ending at the Davrin’s quest, then choosing to knock him out is the best choice for you.
