How to Unlock Lucanis’ Veilguard Skill in Dragon Age: The Veilguard?
To unlock Lucanis’ Veilguard skill in Dragon Age: The Veilguard, you will need to progress his companion storyline through The Murder of Crowsquest. During the final fight, you will need to help him make a choice. Depending on the nature of that choice, you will unlock one of two possible Veilguard skills for Lucanis.
Unfortunately, there is no way for you to unlock both of the Veilguard skills for Lucanis in a single playthrough. To test out each skill you will either have to start a second playthrough or create a separate save file. Additionally, with this choice, you will also unlock a legendary armor for Lucanis. The armor associated with each choice has a unique design. Moreover, the traits on each armor are different and can affect your Lucanis build.
Finally, the choice you will be making for Lucanis is whether he will forgive or imprison his traitorous cousin, Illario. This will happen after you defeat him in the final confrontation, and you will receive the skill and armor rewards immediately.
Here are each of the Veilguard Skills and Legendary Armor you can unlock for Lucanis in Dragon Age: The Veilguard:
- Veilguard Skills
- Demon of Defiance
- Demon of Rebellion
- Legendary Armor
- Crow’s Tenacity
- Crow’s Poise
Lucanis Imprisoned Veilguard Skill
All features and mechanics of Lucanis’s Imprisoned Veilguard Skill:
- Name: Demon of Defiance
- Description: Lucanis’s Critical damage increases by 50%, and his Detonation damage increases by 50%. Lucanis’s Abilities now deal 25% more damage to enemies suffering from an Affliction.
If you choose to imprison Illario for Lucanis, then you will unlock the Demon of Defiance Veilguard skill. This skill will unlock automatically for you and does not require you to spend a skill point.
The Demon of Defiance passive will do two things. First, it will increase Lucanis’s Critical and Detonation damage by 50%. Secondly, all of Lucanis’s Abilities will now deal 25% more damage against any enemy suffering from an Affliction. Afflictions can be related to detonations, including Weakened, Overwhelmed, and Sundered. Additionally, other status effects also include elemental afflictions such as Burning or Chilled.
Demon of Defiance is a great Veilguard Skill for Lucanis if you are using him as a damage-dealing Rogue, who can combo with either your a second party member. Lucanis’s Eviscerate skill will detonate Overwhelmed. Therefore, ideally, you are playing as a Mage with Chain Lighting or Storm Surge. Or a Warrior with Titan Stomp or Grappling Spear.
However, if neither of those options are available/ideal for your build, then you could also use Davrin’s Heroic Strike or Taash’s Spitfire abilities instead.
Lucanis Imprisoned Legendary Armor
All features and mechanics of Lucanis’s Imprisoned Legendary Armor:
- Name: Crow’s Tenacity
- Weight: Medium
- Rarity: Legendary
- Companion only: Lucanis
- Traits:
- Detonations vs. Knocked Down enemies also deal Stagger to all enemies.
- Stagger from Detonating is increased by 50% for each enemy hit.
The Crow’s Tenacity legendary armor has bonuses that boost Lucanis’s ability to stagger on detonations. The first trait will deal Stagger to all enemies if you detonate on a Knocked Down enemy. The second trait builds on the first by increasing the Stagger from detonating by 50% for each enemy hit.
Therefore, this legendary armor is a great way for Rogue companion Lucanis to provide some additional crowd control to the party. The tooltip does not specify the type of Detonation, which means that it could apply to a primer and detonation combo from any two party members. However, taking advantage of these traits will mean that you will have to strategize during battle. Rather than just set off your detonation as soon as an ability’s cooldown ends, you’ll want to save it for a moment with the right target has been knocked down.
Lucanis Forgiveness Veilguard Skill
Features and mechanics of Lucanis’s Forgiveness Veilguard Skill:
- Name: Demon of Rebellion
- Description: Your Resistance is increased by 10%. The party’s Barrier damage is increased by 25%.
If you choose to forgive Illario for Lucanis, then you will unlock the Demon of Rebellion Veilguard skill. Like all other Veilguard skills, this one will unlock automatically for you and does not require you to spend a skill point.
The Demon of Rebellion passive will increase your Resistance by 10%. Moreover, it will also increase the party’s Barrier damage by 25%. Consequently, this passive is a great defense boost for Rook, especially if you are playing as a Champion Warrior taking on the tank role. Furthermore, any class or build could benefit from this trait, if you are having trouble with survivability.
Additionally, the second bonus on this passive skill is especially beneficial because it applies to your entire party so long as Lucanis is an active member. Increasing damage to an enemy’s Barrier from all sources will help you take down the tough targets faster.
Lucanis Forgiveness Legendary Armor
All features and mechanics of Lucanis’s Forgiveness Legendary Armor:
- Name: Crow’s Poise
- Weight: Medium
- Rarity: Legendary
- Companion only: Lucanis
- Traits:
- Detonating an Overwhelmed enemy Detonates another nearby Overwhelmed enemy (30-second cooldown).
- Enemies near the second Detonation become Vulnerable to Necrotic damage.
The Crow’s Poise legendary armor has bonuses that boost the effectiveness of an Overwhelmed detonation and can lower Necrotic resistance. The first trait will allow Lucanis to Detonate two enemies with the affliction at once. The second trait builds off of this, causing all enemies near the second detonation to become vulnerable to Necrotic damage.
The first trait means that you must use Lucanis to detonate Overwhelmed enemies with his Eviscerate skill. Additionally, in order to trigger the second trait on this armor, you will need to use an ability that applies Overwhelmed to more than one enemy.
Consequently, you will need to be either a Mage with Chain Lighting or Storm Surge, or a Warrior with Titan Stomp or Grappling Spear. A second option would be to use Davrin’s Heroic Strike or Taash’s Spitfire abilities instead. All of these abilities will apply the Overwhelm affliction for Lucanis to Detonate.
