Asmongold Says He “Automatically Assumes Games Are Bad” That Feature “Less Attractive” Characters

Twitch streamer Zack Asmongold says games that tone down originally “sexualized” characters result in “bad games.”

Popular Twitch streamer and MMORPG gamer Zack Asmongold is no stranger to making comments that often divide opinions. The streamer recently took to his Twitch stream (Zackrawrr) to give a rather hot take on games that often tone down characters that are often (and originally) sexualized. According to the streamer, there is no such need to do that. He further claimed that any game that follows such a path is a “bad” game in his eyes. The streamer said this:

“Any time that I see a character that was previously sexualized in a story, that is made less sexualized or if the character is less attractrrive, I automatically assume that the entire game is bad.”

Explaining his reasoning, the streamer said that games that change the characteristics of characters do not respect the source materials:

“I know this might sound, ‘Wow, you insane idiot, why would you do that?’ But if you think about it the way I think about it, ask yourself the question, why would you do that? Why would you take a character that is very attractive and players clearly like, and then make it worse? It’s because you don’t respect the source material and you want to use the source material as a vehicle for your worldview.”

“Identity Politics and a Lack of Respect” – Asmongold Is Critical of Games That Tweak Gaming Characters From the Source

Asmongold is never shy about speaking his mind, and on occasion, his statements have sparked controversy. Nevertheless, his recent comments reflected his personal opinions, particularly regarding how he believes games should not alter characters from the original source material.

A clip of his statement was shared by the popular online page DramaAlert (@DramaAlert), which prompted a further explanatory response from the streamer. He wrote:

“Slight correction–you don’t “need” sexualized characters for a game to be good.”

He added:

“However when a character design is changed to be less sexual it is almost always a mining canary for intrusive identity politics and a lack of respect towards the source material.”

Why Did Asmongold Leave OTK?

Asmongold found himself in hot water in October 2024 after making some contentious remarks regarding the Israel-Palestine conflict, a highly sensitive issue for many. Despite this, the streamer stated:

“They (Palestine) have genocide baked into Sharia law right now, so no, I am not going to cry a f**king river when people who have genocide that’s baked into their laws are getting genocided. They are terrible people. It’s not even a question. It’s crazy that people don’t see it that way. They’d be doing the same thing.”

These comments were seen as quite insensitive and led to significant backlash. OTK, the gaming organization co-founded by Zack, released a statement announcing that they had mutually decided to part ways following the remarks.
