Jaguar D. Saul is not dead in One Piece and shows up again in chapter 1133 of the Elbaph Arc. Let us take a closer look at his character.

Jaguar D. Saul is a former Vice Admiral of the Marines who was different from his peers. Despite being chosen to carry out the orders of the World Government, Saul always questioned the validity of their actions.

This thought process was triggered by Nico Olvia – Robin’s mother. Disgusted by the military’s bullying of archaeologists and the triggering of a Buster Call, he betrayed them and set Olvia free.

Saul is a very friendly giant who judges others according to his own morals rather than the established rules. His signature laugh also helps set him apart from all other giants in the series. After setting Olvia free, he himself washed up on the shores of Ohara, though not knowing it at the time.

In Ohara, Saul meets a young Robin and befriends her due to his affectionate nature. While building his raft to set off, the two engage in conversations and form an adorable dynamic. Whenever Robin felt sad, Saul encouraged her to laugh and spread joy. He tried curing her loneliness and restored hope that she would find friends to trust one day.

If not for Saul, it is likely that Robin would not have joined the Straw Hats in the first place. Since Luffy also holds the Will of D, she wished to gain a better understanding of the giant from her past. This led to her connecting with the protagonist in the Arabasta Arc and joining his crew.

Most importantly, Saul is the reason that Robin is still alive in One Piece. Due to the steps he took to protect her, many believed that he had died.

During the Buster Call in Ohara, Saul had promised Olvia that he would protect Robin and carried her off to shore. While escaping the government’s eyes and trying to find safe passage, he runs into Aokiji.

In spite of being friendly with the giant, Aokiji was bound by duty and ended up freezing Saul. In his presumed final moments, Saul gave out his signature laugh and told Robin to escape. Potentially to honor his friend’s dying words, Aokiji did not give chase to the young Robin.

Hence, many fans had assumed that Saul was dead in One Piece till the Elbaph Arc. Here, we find that the ice that held Saul was melted because of the burning island. He then fell into the ocean and managed to survive.

This was a moment of relief for fans, as they would get to spend more time with their favorite giant. Additionally, with the start of a storyline dedicated to giants, Saul will likely play a bigger role.

The Elbaph Arc quickly makes fans shed tears by showing us the emotional reunion between Saul and Robin. After a quick catch-up and enquiries about their whereabouts, the duo fiercely embrace each other and break out in tears.

This makes the other characters in the scene as well as readers cry. Going past their meeting, there is a high possibility of Saul playing an important role in this arc. Having spent time with Robin’s mother and also possessing inside information from the Marines, he might provide a huge clue to the Void Century and the Straw Hats’ search for the Poneglyphs.

In addition, Saul is a member of the Clan of D, destined to greatly impact the world. One might say that he served this position by saving Robin, but since he is still alive, it leaves more room for his contributions in One Piece.

Conclusion

To conclude, Jaguar D. Saul is not dead in One Piece, much to the delight of fans. The giant who helped Robin has gotten to meet his friend again in much happier circumstances. As the Elbaph Arc proceeds, fans will be eager to see if Saul’s reintroduction was only for an emotional moment or if he will play a more long-standing role in the series.
